I bought a Maxtor 200gb SATA drive from staples last week and received it today. When I entered the serial number printed on the package, Maxtor website shows the drive is out of warranty. What should I do???
The drive warranty is from the day you bought it. Be sure to keep your receipt to prove your purchase date. You will need the receipt in case of a warranty claim. The hard manufactures will check your receipt first and if you do not have a receipt, will check the manufacture date on the drive and use that date for warranty. That is way it shows up on their web site as out of warranty. It was manufactured over a year ago.
I e-mail Maxtor last night and replied back saying they will start the warranty from the date of purchase if I fax in the receipt and copy of the disk label.
Kind of surprise that a drive can sit in Staples' warehouse for over a year!
