I installed the client about 20 minutes ago, and all I have on the screen is this:

[May 09 19:38:59 UTC] Automatic processor detection found 1 processor.
[May 09 19:38:59 UTC] Loaded OGR stub 25/2-19-6-30-12-1 (3.30% done)
[May 09 19:38:59 UTC] 23 OGR packets (23 work units) remain in buff-in.ogr
[May 09 19:38:59 UTC] 0 OGR packets (0 work units) are in buff-out.ogr
[May 09 19:38:59 UTC] 1 cruncher has been started.
.R...

What is happening and why am I not "cracking" faster? Or is this normal? Duron 600@800.

You let the project preferences at default, and the client works on OGR which is dnet's default project currently.
If that's what you want to do, fine. OGR stubs take time to complete, that's normal.

If you want to do RC5, insert these lines in your dnetc.ini :

[misc]
project-priority=RC5,OGR=0

[rc5]
fetch-workunit-threshold=64
preferred-blocksize=33
fetch-time-threshold=96

fetch-workunit-threshold is the minimum number of WU's you want to have in reserve. 64 is fine.

fetch-time-threshold is the number of hours your computer will be able to work without having to connect to a server. You'll make it higher if you connect REALLY rarely.

If you have a permanent connection, these threshold settings dont matter much however.

preferred-blocksize is used to process larger packets, lowering network load on the servers.

With your setup, a 32 blocks packet should complete in about 1 hour.
OGR stubs vary greatly in size, but a completion time of 8 hours is common, I think.

[edit] Oh btw, I assume you downloaded the client from dnet's www and are using your own email. So, when your fist WU's have been sent to the server and you appear on the stats (24h delay) you need to request your password to join the TeAm.

Welcome to the world of DC, and Team Anandtech !

Luckster, there is some excellent information to be had here.

Also you could run a benchmark from within the client to see what it's actual cracking rate is at any given moment. The benchmark utility can ba accessed the same as the configuration utility as seen here.

Not to start a war, but did he mention somewhere that he wanted to join a mini-team, and if he hasn't, why push the federation in particular upon him?

<why push the federation in particular upon him?>

I could be wrong, but me thinks One of Borg is desperate for some Mini-team competition with the Feds. 😛

😉

Sort of a build thy "enemy" up so then thy can layest the smack-down on them 😉

PC statement: "enemy" is used in this context to describe a friendly competitor in a friendly contest, hence the use of the " ". In no way should the use of "enemy" be construed as to mean anything other than friendly competitor.

😉

BK,

In an effort to avoid offending your tender sensibilities, I will forthwith attempt to avoid all fun and joking in my posts.

Chill the hell out.

\hmm....the possibilities...there are mini-teams? Are there ferringis? I know RD and russ love them. 🙂

Im see if I can figure out how to insert that code..

ok, says

[Jun 09 22:26:00 UTC] RC5: using core #6 (RG/HB ath).
[Jun 09 22:26:00 UTC] Loaded RC5 8*2^28 packet 2F547C02:30000000
[Jun 09 22:26:00 UTC] 2 RC5 packets (16 work units) remain in buff-in.rc5
[Jun 09 22:26:00 UTC] 0 RC5 packets (0 work units) are in buff-out.rc5
[Jun 09 22:26:00 UTC] 1 cruncher has been started.
.....10%.

so I assume im doing the right thing. 🙂

That's it!!! You're up and running! 😀

And BK!!!! :Q :Q :Q

You changed! I didn't recognize you for a minute! 😉

Yep! In my opinion RC5 is the right thing to do 😉

According to LeBlatt's calculations, it ought to take ~30 minutes to finish those two packets.

Looks like you are right, took almost exactly 1/2 hour. Whats my goal per 24 hours? 🙂

Sorry for the Q's.

Luckster,

There was actually some talk of forming a Ferengi mini team.😀 I think Red should head it up!

<< Whats my goal per 24 hours? >>

What CPU are you running? It's all based on type and speed.

Russ,
<I will forthwith attempt to avoid all fun and joking in my posts.>

You were joking? :Q

I will forthwith attempt to see the humor in everyone's posts, and have some fun.

<Chill the hell out.>

I think he did: <well yeah, but that isn't fair to...oh well, they arn't evangelizing, so it's their fault>

😉😉😉😉😉
😀

<< There was actually some talk of forming a Ferengi mini team. I think Red should head it up! >>

That would be something, would it not? Red the captain of TeamFerengi within TeamAnandTech? I honestly think I might pay money or donate some blocks or something to see that 🙂

"there are mini-teams? Are there ferringis?"
Not heard of them yet. But we, The Federation, are devoted to kick Borg butt fo great justice !
