I can't disable it in the properties. How do I go about disabling this? I hate that annoying pop up.

Edit: I'm talking about the newest beta version that is available, version 5.5.3.

There used to be a place in the registry where you could disable it...maybe it's still there?

I hate that goddamn thing. It always pops up with something like "Rate this J-Lo look-alike" and it's always some fourteen year old with two pounds of makeup on that doesn't look anything like a celebrity. I'm not a fvckin' pedo like most of your users, AOL. :p

I must use an older version on Windows, because I was able to turn that off (I use GAIM on linux). One thing I was very, very annoyed with was a talking ad that appeared in the main buddylist window. That's inexcusable.

Those ads are driving me NUTS! Any way to shut those off? Its a java applet, and I use java for other things so don't want to uninstall it outright. But these damn ads are getting to be too much! I am on v. 5.2 - by the sounds of it, I have to make sure i don't upgrade to more adware mess!

Is there a better IM client for windoze that will handle the AIM protocall besides Trillian? I found Trillian to be far from IM bliss, of course it was a much older version so its possible that it is better now.

I found the registry entry to change to remove the today window.

I closed aim, changed the key, and started it back up... no today window... so they haven't hardcoded launching the stupid thing.

Version for the people who don't know how to edit the registry**

( > denotes "then click")

Click Start > Run > Type "regedit"

Click HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > America Online > AOL Instant Messenger (TM) > Current Version > Users > (the screen name you initially sign in with*) > MISC > double click the value of "ShowAimTodayWindow" and change to "0". (minus the quotation marks of course)

*I signed in with linked screen names and I only had to edit it with the one I sign in with from the login prompt, so the options for the other ones don't matter. (I'd assume.)
** If you do this and mess something up, not my fault. BE CAREFUL.
