Say hi to Harley! 4mo old lab/retriever mix according to our shelter. Just had surgery Tuesday and picked her up yesterday. She's going to be an outside dog during the day, but will be sleeping in our room at night in a crate so we started training last night. She did awesome! A few whines initially but I took her out every 2-3 hours so she could try and do her business (after she stopped whining). No accidents in her crate or in the house last night, although she came close in her crate but I caught her just in time. I set up one of those octagon shaped play pens for our backyard for now, but we'll be doing some fencing work to separate a few areas so she'll have tons of room to hang out and run around during the day once it's done (we have a 0.5 acre lot). The wife is on doggy duty today, and I took tomorrow off and will have the whole weekend to play and train. Odd thing, I was trying to figure out what high value treat she liked. Tried hot dogs and she didn't take to them, and some little smokey sausages, which she just licked but never actually ate. She ended up liking some bacon bit type treats but I'm not sure I should be giving them to her all the time for training. Doesn't seem healthy haha.

Our little dog hasn't warmed up to her, but she hasn't barked or snapped at the new dog yet. More curious and a bit skiddish, but we're giving her extra plenty praise for being good to not get jealous and stuff.

Anyways, tips, words of wisdom or any experiences you'd like to share are welcome!

tldr: Got a new puppy from the shelter!
