Hey,

Just thought this was interesting to note. I installed the latest driver for my x800 (vanilla), and at idle it was running 60 c. Before the driver install it was running idle at 40 c. I loaded up COD, and it maintained 60-61 c, which is about normal (I just replaced the heatsink with a stock one from a x800 pro- helped 8 to 10 c). So, I rolled it back and the card is idling at 40 c again. I monitor temp with ATItool. So, should I report this to ATI? Has anyone ever experienced a card heating up after a driver install?

I have a X800XT PE and I had no issues about the temperature increasing, but is quite annoying that every 3 to 8 days I has to remove and reinstall the drivers because, it would not respond to the image quality that I want, for example, I set the ATi Tray Tool to 4x Anti Aliasing, and the game looks like 2x or nothing at all, and some problems with the AF that make the textures shimmers like crazy. Once I reinstall them all stop for a while, I guess I'm going back to the 6.11 or something. Installing Catalyst doesn't help at all neither.

My XT-PE wanted to idle at 70 Celcius, and was running at 84-86 in Oblivion until I tucked a backplane cooler fan in next to it, now it idles at 60, and stays under 75 in the game. That was a cheaper and easier option than an aftermarket HSF swap.

That's quite high, mines is idle at 48-52 and at full power is between 69-80c, and where I live the environment is around the 75-88f

Kiwi, did yours always idle like that, or was it after the installation of the newest driver? Like I stated in my original post, after installing the original driver, mine started idling at 60c. As soon as I rolled back, right back down to 40c. That is a very high idle btw. Evolution, so you are having problems with the driver too? interesting...
