SBLive Platinum
On ATA66 controller
Secondary Master: TEAC CD-W512EB - CDRW drive

On HPT370 Controller
Primary Master: Maxtor 10G drive
Secondary Master: Maxtor 27G drive

Situation:
I downloaded and installed the WDM drivers mentioned in this thread,
to see if they worked any better than the original version I got with the card.
The driver install seemed to work quite well, but after rebooting I noticed that
my CDRW drive was not showing a drive letter under windows. The drive still
shows up under Device Manager (with its former drive letter assignment in properties);
but a selection for the drive does not appear in explorer, nor in Easy CD Creator to
recognize the drive. The DVD drive still shows up just fine.
I have tracked the problem to the driver install itself, and not the additional
AudioHQ and Mixer apps. If I uninstall the drivers and reboot, I get the drive
letter assignment back. However, if I reinstall the drivers, install the original
drivers on top of the new ones, or reinstall the original drivers after I remove
the new ones; the problem reappears.
I was able to restore the system from a working backup image (thanks to DriveImage),
so I didn't lose any functionality.
But I was wondering if anyone else:
Has noticed any quirks like that from installing the new SBLive drivers on
your machines?
Thinks it might be related to the configuration of the CDRW on the ATA66
controller?
Thinks it might be fixable with the BIOS update?
🙂 and no, I can't afford to switch to a Santa Cruz right now...
