Hi everyone,

I used EZ-CD creator's spin doctor to import a cool cassette tape onto my computer, but now I have a 1000 mb wav file, waaaay too large to burn a cd with.

If I can split that file into two 500 mb files I can probably burn 2 cds from it.

I may need to split it even further, probably 3 or 4 files right?

What software can I use to do this? Free software is preferred of course ;)

Can anyone help me please?

cheers :)

unfortuantly sean2002 this program created 2 files, that aren't playable too well.

Windows Media Player only reads part 1 up to a certain point, then says the format is invalid.

Part 2 is completely unreadable, and Nero doesn't even recognize it as a WAV file.

Can anyone please help?

just use HJsplit (http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/)
You can set how big you want each piece to be. It will add a .001/.002 to the extension- but I've found all files play fine when split this way, so you could just delete the extra extension.

Plus it's free :)

man, that sucks - whenever I clicked the file by accident & then opened it - it would play.
Though I haven't used it since moving to XP - got a Win2K box to try it on? Also, how was the mp3 made?

joinT, the music file is a massive WAV one, imported onto the PC using SBlive! card sound-in and EZ creator's SPIN DOCTOR. I could try it w/ a W2K box, but it may be easier to try a demo of SoundForge like Need4Speed suggests.

apemaninfintiy, I won't use a WAREZ version, perhaps as Need4Speed suggests there is a demo-thanks :)

Otherwise I could restart w/ Spin Doctor again and limit the imported file to 500 MB or so, but it's a lot of work to sit in front of it and wait.

Guys I'm very grateful for your input and ideas :) :)

You could do it with GoldWave. I don't have a link for it right now, but it has a free trial period.
With a file that large, you might be waiting a while for the swap file if you don't have gobs of system memory. :)

Thanks for your thoughts and help guys. Soundforge demo worked well :)

Does anyone know of a file splitter that has a Windows and MAC version?

I'm trying to split a file to email to my friend, who has a MAC, and we need software that will split/join on both sides.

Anyone?
