Newer Nvidia drivers suck for older cards???

Question for you guys,
i've got a Geforce3 TI500 in my second pc.
I've recently tried the 53.03 drivers when they first came out and had bad luck with them.
My games would run ok for the most part but 3Dmark would crash out to a black screen.
I then tried the newer 56.64's that came out last week.
With these drivers call of duty would crash to a black screen occasionally and 3Dmark would not run.
But some games run ok.

so the bottom line is that i went back to the old 45.23 drivers and guess what, every game and benchmark
work without a hitch.
I know the newer Forceware's aren't really meant for older cards (with no enhancements i should say).

So i'll be sticking with these drivers for that card and the newest drivers for my FX5900XT.

So what drivers do you like best for older cards? (pre-FX)

I have the same GF3 ti 500 card... I'd read on guru3D that the best driver for the card is the 23.12 (fastest) and that later drivers were tweaked for the new feature sets on the newer cards and were therefore not as good.


But... If you go to 3D Mark.com and do a search fro high score with the GF3, you'll see that the top score uses a driver in ht emid 40s -- I think it may have been the 45 set you are using right now...

Using 53.03's on my Ti200. Work fine for me. Actually, This is the first set of drivers since the 30.82's that have impressed me. Even the refresh rate override actually works.

I always found the 41.09 to give the best performance on my geforce 4, but there was a huge IQ increase with 53.03 and I only lost about 3 FPS, so IMO the tradeoff was quite worth it. Running the 56.72 now, just because I like to stay updated, but I don't think I'll roll back to below 53.03 - the IQ is just too sweet.

Agreed, I use the 44.03 for all pre geforce FX cards. the 2x.xx for geforce 3 had issues with the nvidia BSOD error.

They work the best with the NF1&2 IGP IME too.

I just installed the 56.72s on my wife's computer which has a GF2 MX in it. The drivers work fine for her, the most strenuous use of her GPU is a game called Dynomite.

44.03 seem to be the best for GF3/GF4 for me.

with the 56.xx drivers, my Ti4600 got 11-12,000 in 3DMark 2001, and 14,000 with the 44.03s.
