Newer (good) version of Asus 4850 512

I heard that Asus was redoing the HS with a Glaciator fan, and updating the BIOS on the new cards. So I waited until last week (and paid $40 more than the other brands) to order an Asus card. The shop i bought it from assured my translator that it was the new version, shipped direct from Taiwan.
Well I just got it today, and my heart sank when I opened the box, as it looks just like the "bad" cards - the "bear foot" like HS with the girl on it. Is there a way to tell which revision it is? I have all my parts sitting here, but am reluctant to install, as I may not be able to exchange it then.

the glaciator fan is a completely different version of the asus 4850. you got hosed in translation.

the good news is that you should be fine with the crappy single slot design. my room is consistently 25-26c (have 2 highly oc'd quads running seti 24/7 plus 4850 folding), my gpu is pegged at 90% plus since it's folding all the time, and I haven't seen the fan go above 40% or the gpu temp go over 83c. when I let the gpu take a breather, it idles ~ 80c but fan speed is 7%. 80c is absolutely safe, unfortunately the heat nazis make it into a HUGE deal. My 3870 idled at 40c with my fan set @ 45%, but frankly I see no difference. I was originally going to get an s1 rev 2 and oc the crap out of this card, but frankly I'm happy with my temps, noise, and decent oc (690/1075). Besides, I'll probably sell it in 6-9 mos when something better comes along, and I'd have a tough time getting the $35 back out of the s1 rev2.

Well, that makes me feel MUCH better about this. I'll throw this beast together and see what happens. Also, I leave the side off my case, so heat isn't that big a deal. Although my room is about 90 during the summer.
Just curious, was the extra $40 for an Asus card a waste?
It cost me about $250 (plus about $10 for shipping). Powercolor etc. cards were about $210.

I wouldn't say that it's a waste b/c asus has better software and a better warranty, but I don't know that the asus is worth 20% more than the others. Asus is a very good brand, however, in fact I would probably grab asus over any amd partner other than visiontek if prices were close.
