I'm researching prices on motherboards when I decided to browse into Newegg's Epox AMD motherboard sections. The title of each board goes like this.

**This item is NOT REFUNDABLE, exchange for same exact item only!!**

The Intel section is the same.
Is there something going on with Epox we need to know about?

Sounds like Newegg is tired of people with buyer's remorse. They're willing to replace the board if it's defective, but only with the same model.

There's nothing wrong with Epox boards. I got an 8K3A+ a bit over a month ago and have been very pleased.
The problem, IMNSHO, is that Epox tends to sell enthuiast boards that cater to the frequently-upgrading, synthetic-benchmark-worshipping crowd, and that's a type that often tends to (1) not know what the hell they are doing (you know where the forums are where you can read their idiots remarks, you know the ones like "8K3A sucks, I can only get it to 205MHz FSB," etc.

), (2) as a corallary to part 1, tend to blow up their stuff a lot and then when they RMA want to turn that into an upgrade, (3) upgrade so often that they try to do it without paying for it, i.e. abuse the return policies.

Epox boards are notorious for their overclockability. :) I have a feeling that some peeps buy these mobos looking for a solid overclocking experience, and as o/cs are not guaranteed... they wind up coming up short.

People just get lazy and try to RMA the board.
