Newegg wants to conquer Europe...What about Canada?

Newegg in Europe

But why are they not in Canada yet? Anybody knows? I would be very interested to have access to Newegg's selection and prices. If Amazon.com can do it (Amazon.ca), why not Newegg?

i bought a power supply for a Nikon camera when i was in Vancouver.

the PS was about $50 US; it got hit with about a $50 Canadian import tax.

Because Quebec and its weird laws screw everything up for the rest of the country, that's my guess.

I have several friends who live in CA (BC, Ontario and Alberta) and they would tend to agree.

Canadian product labeling laws do get in the way. Sm8000 put a finger right on part of it And, in absolute numbers, it is a small market whereas Europe is now a single economic entity with free trade between Euro nations. The total market size would justify setting up a separate Euro corporation.

Remember - the primary objective of a business is to make money.

Canada needs Newegg. The only retailers here with relatively large selections are NCIX and DirectCanada and they are nothing in comparison with the large American retailers.

Tigerdirect doesn't count because they suck.

So very true. They have the wakiest laws. The weirdest related thing I ever saw was some contest from a sports card company that was open to the US and Canada, but Canada had to answer a question first. The question was "What is 1 + 1?" I thouhgt it was a joke but it wasnt.

It's really too bad newegg hasn't made it into Canada yet :frown:

There were talks of it happening over a year ago now, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon now...🙁

That's not a Quebec law, that's a Canada law. You have to answer a skill-testing question in Canada because of the heavy restrictions on gambling - that is, you don't just win the lottery and that's that. Usually the question is something like: 2+(5x6)/10-2. Point being you have to show some skill was involved.

Yeah, so much for the FTA, we should tax the bejesus out of the power and water we will/have given them. Not even to mention the oil. It's not just newegg, so many retailers (zzf) are just too lazy to open a shipping depot here. I really don't see the point of any trade agreements between usa and Canada because our major export industries are failing anyways and america is going to go broke if there is another prez as bad/100 million dollar missle happy as boosh. Canada really just loves to hand over its resources and take it in the @$$

Sorry to say this is not true for online retailing. There are a many Canadian online retailers that have english-only web sites: NCIX.com and DirectCanada.com for example. I have bought from them. We have Tigerdirect.ca, an offshoot of Tigerdirect.com in the US, offering much of what is available on the US web site.

There are bilingual canadian retail sites, such as Amazon.ca or Dell.ca, but they are bilingual by choice, because they want to have more sales in Quebec.

So, like TigerDirect and others, Newegg could open an english-only online store for Canada. However, french-language laws would apply if Newegg (or anyone else) wanted to open a brick-and-mortar store in Quebec.

darn right...they don't mind selling to Geeks, bit they if
had to sell to geeks,,it's rthose dilly zfrench aepesking omtd thry csn tolerste.

I believe all products in Canada have to have both French and English on them - which adds a lot of extra costs to manufacturers. Maybe that affects Newegg's profit margin?

Canada is officially a bilingual country - they just don't have the numbers to back it up. Percentage-wise, the number of Spanish speaking Americans is very close to the percentage of French-speaking Canadians. Difference being that Spanish in America in increasing while French in Canada is decreasing.

Maybe someday America will be forced to put Spanish on all their products. Although I doubt it - technically America has no official language.

Now I'm getting totally off-topic, lol. Maybe newegg just doesn't think there's a good enough market in Canada. Canadians are paid less and taxed much, much more - not exactly a formula for profit.

Personally I think Newegg will struggle in Europe. There are so many good online computer shops here already, everyone has accounts with them, we know they're reliable, etc. Newegg would have to be very cheap for me to use it.

Well, since NCIX scammed me by not paying a $40 rebate for OCZ RAM, they never got another order from me. I rely on http://www.shoprbc.com , http://www.canadacomputers.com , http://www.anitec.com , http://www.cancomputer.com And I compare prices with http://www.pricegrabber.ca , http://www.pricenetwork.ca
http://www.tigerdirect.ca is still acceptable for some items

I do use http://www.amazon.ca http://www.chapters.ca to buy some books although SOMETIMES because of their really cheap price, http://www.traderslibrary.com might be useful but their shipping to Canada is still more expensive. I don't know why they have The New Options Advantage by David Caplan for under $30 US while amazon.ca has it for over $90 CDN.

happy shopping

If Europe specifically includes the UK and they don't charge a GODDAMN arm & leg to ship over here to Northern Ireland (come on it's not like it's the shetland islands) then I'm interested. Unless they want me to use their silly mickey-mouse euro money.

Huh? As far as I know NCIX only has 2 types of rebates. Instant rebates and Manufacturer's mail in rebates. The instant rebate should have been taken off the price when ordered, if it wasn't you can just call them up. If it was a Manufacturer's mail in rebate you should be complaining about OCZ, not NCIX. I've never had a single problem with NCIX.

Anyways, newegg in Canada isn't really needed in my opinion. NCIX has 99% of everything I've ever wanted. The only thing they've never had when I looked for em was late yoon's. I'm also lucky enough to live in Calgary so memory express is great too.
