Newegg's reviews were pretty decent in terms of people's knowledge (except if you're looking at AMD/Intel processors then the flamboyant fanboyism takes over). But I sure don't need video review like i'm going to buy.com or amazon!

Just noticed video reviews for the first time:

Lol, you shopping at the same NewEgg the rest of us are? At their best, the reviews there are only a starting point. At their worst, they're not even worth reading for the "lulz."

Everyone has their own criteria but, I think you'd be hard pressed to find any legitimate review site who thinks NewEgg's reviews are worth the electrons they're printed on including NewEgg's own disclaimer.

I agree. Same with Amazon. Just about the ONLY thing they're good for is checking if DOA is common.

People tend to give 1 star if they're too stupid to use the product (or too dumb to read the description)

Newegg and Amazon's reviews are an awesome resource.

If someone isn't capable of processing feedback and doesn't know how to extract relevant information and leave the rest, I think that's very unfortunate.

Newegg does not post a lot of negative reviews for obvious reasons. I would trust Amazon reviews far more.

Since when? I've never heard anyone complain about newegg review censorship until now, and when I was shopping for my new rig I ran across plenty of 2 and 1 egg reviews.

The process of making an objective review lends itself to the written word. Reading takes less time than listening to someone speak. I'd just as soon go without.
So long as newegg never forces me to watch them I dont see any issue here.
I have the same issue with CNET, but again, I dont actually need to watch the vids, and besides which theres always a good written review anyway.

I won't buy anything for the household without checking Amazon for feedback first or buy anything for the computer without checking Newegg for users' feedback first. I care less about stars than what they say, and if others corroborate etc.

Reviews at newegg are also helpful regarding compatibility issues and if, for example, particular memory works well on particular motherboards etc.

Since I post a lot of Newegg reviews and about once in a blue moon, they will actually post one of my negative ones.

Most consumer made video reviews are hard to watch, I typically turn them off after the 10th "um" in the first 30 seconds.

Heh usually, but there are some people that are just good at it.

Look at nutnfancy. One of his earliest video reviews was for Amazon on a knife:
SOG Flash 1
(which he was spot on with. I went ahead and bought it based solely on his review)

Even back then, he was able to review an item far better than most people.

For most computer hardware, I don't see much need for a video review, except maybe for peripherals like a joystick or something.

nutnfancy's original reviews were pretty good, now days, not so much (just my opinion).
