UPDATE: Was looking at wrong product, not 135 but 147 shipped

I was looking around, and saw this deal at newegg. At first I was considering the OEM version, at $121 shipped, but noticed that it did not come with heatsink and fan.

I will not be overclocking at all, and my house doesn't get all that hot up here in Portland.

Which do you think would be better: retail, or oem and buying separate heatsink and fan?
Do they have different warranties?

If its the retail box, it should come with a 3 year warrenty.
The heatsink should be sufficient if you don't overclock or anything.

Need to check that price again. The $135 is for a 1.0g not a 1.2g. The 1.2g retail is $137+10 for shipping.

Racer the 1ghz retail is $125 at newegg, and I'm sure he knows it's $137 but was rather stating a "rounded" price.

Hermpete, the OEM comes with a 30 day warranty (so pretty much no warranty at all) and no heatsink, the retail comes with 3 year warranty and a decent AMD approved heatsink. If your not looking to overclock then go with the retail for sure.

Even if it does not get hot where you live. You need to have a heatsink and fan. Otherwise you will fry the CPU within a seconds.

If you purchase the OEM... you will have less warranty... and generally they do not overclock as well (the Manufacturer... likes to discourage resellers from overclocking and selling their systems as a faster MHZ system than it really was supposed to be).

If the cost difference is not that great.. I'd recommend going with the
RETAIL version. You are not going to overclock so you will not need to purchase an aftermarket
(BETTER) heatsink/fan combo. The retail heatsink/fan is all that you will likely need/want.

Does anyone know when AMD will have their next round of price cuts or is it random? I'll be in the market for a 1.2 or 1.33GHz in early Aug.

Definitely not random, more likely always in response to Intel's price cuts :). So the question should be when is the next Intel's scheduled price cuts?
