Can someone explain this to me, how can Newegg sell a 100-stamp roll of supposed Forever Stamps for $18.99, when they cost $0.58 (ea.) at the Post Office?

You know what they say about "too good to be true".

Either an awful lot of US Postage Stamps fell off of a truck somewhere, or "the Chinese" (Newegg is Chinese-owned) are making a concerted effort to defraud and destabilize the USPS by the sale of fake Forever Stamps. (And why would you even be importing them from China anyways...?)

I saw those earlier today. They are sold by a 3rd party retailer, and not Newegg.

There are no user reviews on them, and I imagine they probably are fakes. As with most 3rd party sellers, caveat emptor.......

Edit: Here is a link to the item: Stamps

The seller has 15 total reviews, with a 40% customer service rating, and a 66% product accuracy rating.

Newegg is Chinese owned and is a marketplace so it's not any better than say, Aliexpress. Definitely would not trust that. For stamps I'd stick to buying from the post office. Even at the post office 58c price you listed that is still super cheap.

With gas prices and my truck's gas mileage, within 1 mile, I can hand deliver letters cheaper than USPS. Anything over that, the 58¢ is cheaper.

Apparently stamp forging is a real 'thing'.

Not sure if I'm surprised or not. On the one hand, it must be far easier than forging currency, on the other, with people sending far fewer letters now, I wouldn't have thought it was particularly profitable.

A first-class Forever stamp for a 1-ounce card or letter costs 58 cents — and when bargain-basement prices are advertised, that’s a red flag. “A substantial discount means the stamps are likely counterfeit,” Avery says.

If you only buy direct from Newegg itself you'll be ok most of the time although Newegg CS has gone from "best in the business" back in the day to sub-Ebay quality. "Marketplace" sellers OTOH are a total crapshoot.

That Gamers Nexus motherboard debacle was the last straw for me though... I still check Newegg for price but given the choice I'll buy someplace else whenever possible.

We used to be able to pay our electric bill at a local(not really)bank. My wife would recommend that I drop by and pay the bill, to "save" the stamp. the drive was kinda out of the way by 8 miles. used to burn more gas going there than the stamp cost. Took awhile to get thru to her.

Same goes for my dad, who used to drive 10 miles out of the way(20 total) to save 5 cents/gallon on gas, all the while driving a car that only got 12 miles a gallon.
no matter how many times I showed him the math, he never admitted he was losing money "saving 5 cents".

That's a good thing about high gas prices if you think about it. You can go where it's most convenient now. Even crossing the street is barely if at all worth the effort. Pick the place that has the easiest in/out, and get on with life.

I happen to have a reasonably priced Mobil station (which is not common!) about 1/3 of a mile from my home which I drive right past almost daily anyway. Plus per my car they have the best quality gas in my area too.

They also have a decent "rewards" program which nets me a couple dollars cash back every few weeks so I already used them for the majority of my gas-purchases before the recent round of extreme price-gouging anyway. (except when I have gas-points from Stop & Shop which only work @ Shell)

It also mitigates the difference between high and low octane fuel. I don't care about driving the Camaro around anymore because it's still like $5/gal for the truck.
