Newegg stocking Cougar PSUs?

Sup power section,
Newegg seems to have just started stocking Cougar PSUs.

Who's the OEM?

What brands are Cougar comparable to? Are they another Corsair/Antec? A little lower like OCZ? Or are they lower down like CoolerMaster? Or perhaps even lower, on par with the likes of Logisys, Diablotek or Athena?

Newegg has stocked Cougar power supplies for quite a while....Oklahoma Wolf, in a review of a European-only Cougar ps he reviewed in Feb. mentioned just that.....

HEC is the OEM for Cougar ps's.....but there is a huge difference between the "real" Cougars found in Europe and the "U.S. only" Cougars sold at Newegg.

To lift a quote from OK's review of the Euro Cougar.....

I must admit I didn't have a lot of hope for this unit, being from the same OEM that completely underwhelmed me the last time I looked at a HEC built product.

This particular unit doesn't appear to be available in North America right now. What about the Cougars listed at Newegg, you ask? Well... they aren't really the same thing. What we're looking at here is HEC's actual Cougar brand name, not the HEC Cougar units you can currently get at Newegg. Confused, much? Me too.

But I really want to see these things being sold in North America instead of these other Cougars that are really different Cougars with names that are too similar to tell them apart easily. Two points off for giving me a cougar sized headache.

The upshot is HEC markets two distinctly different Cougar branded power supply lines, one for the U.S. and utter junk, and one for the rest of the world and are good power supplies.

They just showed up at NCIX.com in Canada too, all the way up to 1000w

From what I've read, they are not Junk, but in the OCZ Range at best.

Damn, reading comprehension problems?

That was the EXACT power supply I linked to and was mentioned throughout the article it was a EUROPEAN ONLY model, not available in North America.

As Hoofan noted, the Cougar/HEC variants available in North America are complete rippling, out of spec junk.....well below the junk OCZ puts out.

Sorry

Is it that time of the month?

I have two of them, a 570w and 750w. One in main rig and another in my WHS. Both work great and are nice and quiet.

I've always used HEC (personally and when I was in the business of system building) and have never had a single one die on me.
