newegg ships items in retail box?

i bought a scanner and newegg shipped it in the retail box. they just taped up the flaps, put shipping sticker on it and it arrived with wear from shipping (a little dirty, bent corners, etc). haven't tried out scanner yet, but i would have expected it to be shipped in another box with peanuts.

is this common practice from newegg?

I have received all small products in another box with peanuts.

Except once I ordered a 5.1 channel speaker system. That was in a big box. They just shipped the box. I was surprised. Fortunately, there was no damage.

If it's something that's packed well to begin with (as a scanner should be) I don't see a problem with it. Everything I've gotten from Newegg was inside another box except a case, but other than the case I've only ordered CPUs, motherboards, and RAM.

I jst got my system from newegg and the case came first in its own box. everything else (mobo, CPU, RAM, PSU, HDD, DVD) came in their own oxes inside a fedex box with tons of peanuts.

The only item I ever recieved in the retail packaging and not inside of another container was a Shuttle SN45G from Googlegear, and it was evident the box was designed to take the abuse of shipping so no BFD.

Printers, scanners, monitors, and cases frequently get shipped in their own boxes with no additional packaging.

Most retailers will ship large heavy items in the retail box. Stuff like large computer cases, monitors, and speakers usually come in the original retail box.

That is honestly so weird... someone could easily yoink that if they knew exactly what it was.... not cool.

That's why the companies that ship them insure the packages, if it is lost or stolen the delivery company reimburses the retailer and they ship you another one. Quite a few years back I ordered a Dell computer and it was shipped (in the retail box) through FedEx but I never got it. Tracking showed it being sent but never delilvered, so I guess someone stole it. Called Dell up, they confirmed I never received it and I got another one.

When I ordered a set of Altec Lansings they just sent the retail box, same with the two printers I've ordered from them.

I get printers and scanners in their retail packaging all the time. Small or fragile stuff is often re packed.
.bh.

MY Sonata and a new printer from Newegg came in their retail boxes. The speakers I bought from Monarch came inside a larger box w/peanuts. I'm sure each vendor has its own policy.

That's how both of my scanners were shipped.

My Klipsch Ultra 5.1's came in the retail box

they had a good packing setup inside though, they were safe. Fedex seems to be a little more (keyword: little) more gentle than UPS also
