I'm just curious. Does anybody know if it cost more, less, or same if you bought all your items together as opposed to individually at Newegg.

ok, after an hour nobody had an answer. I poured myself a glass of wine and spent a couple of minutes figuring it out.

Answer: Cheaper if you buy all at once.

FYI. it was 30% cheaper shipping in my situation (a typical pc build)

Now we all know! :)

According to my experience, some time it adds up the same, and some time you save a little on the shipping.

I do not think that it is a secret that NewEgg's pricing structure includes changing strategies in shipping charges.

It their right to do so as long as every thing is up front, and they are upfront you do not have to wait (like is the case with many other vendors) until the 3rd checkup screen to find out the shipping charges for each item.

IMO its common sense to realize that when you buy everything seprate you have to pay for thre shipping on each item shipped....

Yet together is always preferable!!

Peace!!

I do have one nitpick with NewEgg shipping - their packaging practices need some work. In the last week, I've had three separate shipments from them (originated from different warehouses) and all three have come in ridiculously large boxes. Yesterday I got a video card and and IDE cable shipped in a box large enough for a tall PC case. The other day, I got memory that had it's own secure packaging in blister pack that was inside a box the size of a shoebox with peanuts, inside of the larger box that contained it and a hard drive and mobo.

Aside from the obviously higher shipping rates because of the bigger boxes, the amount of waste that is going on here is laughable. I'm all for secure packaging, but within reason.

Other than that, NewEgg has always done right by me. And living in CA, any package originating from their West Coast warehouse arrives to me next day even via UPS Ground.

I also just got a bunch of stuff from NewEgg, and those boxes are pretty friggin' huge these days. I like good packaging, but it does feel a bit crazy.

However, on the plus side, their shipping times are insanely fast - this past order (about a dozen items), 90% of the stuff came the next day. Not bad at all.

Ehh...if all the items are free shipping specials it doesn't matter. If some of the items are not free shipping but offer a discount on multiple units, and you're buying multiple units of that item, it will be cheaper buying them all in the same purchase. Most items with shipping charge @ Newegg don't offer a shipping discount, those that do often require three units or more, and the discount usually is pretty insignificant.
