I ordered a new heatsink and fan for my cpu from newegg and was pleasantly surprised they now offer UPS as a shipping option. I've always found UPS ground to be pretty reliable and quick and it's cheaper than the fedex express saver.

Wow that's really surprising, I think UPS Ground absolutely suXor. The Fedex Saver has been at least 2 days faster sometimes 3 in all the things I have ordered.

Example about 3 weeks ago I ordered all kinds of parts for a new rig I put together, I used ZipZoom and NewEgg. All the parts from ZipZoom were shipped FedEx and it took 3 days to get here from the time I ordered, The parts from NewEgg were UPS, and it took more then 5 days to get here, I ordered it on a Monday....no parts until the following Monday.

UPS=Suxor

Oh by the way in case you ask, bot NewEgg and ZipZoom shipped my parts out of Cali.

While it is a nice option for some, the savings really isn't substantial. I added a single $40 item that weighed less than 2 lbs. to my cart and ground was only a few pennies cheaper than FedEx saver. I added $1600 worth of assorted "heavy" items and ground was about $3.50 less.

I ordered the following items off Newegg

- DVD Burner
- GFX Card
- Case
- PSU

And the difference between FedEx and UPS was about $1. I went FedEx. :)

I also think fedex is faster. I use fedex saver shipping when i order on newegg and i usually receive the item within 48hours.

ZipZoomFly has free 2nd FedEx, but they don't have everything Newegg has...some of their prices are better or worst, never ordered from them though so I can't say how good they are?

ZZF is great, I really like to order from them because of the free 2nd day. Usually I will just order from whichever is cheaper out of ZZF or Newegg.

Ive probably spent over $3000 at ZZF over the past few years.

Just ordered a new PSU from Newegg, and chose the UPS option because of my frustrations with FedEx -- e.g., watching my order go from a warehouse ten minutes from my house to a FedEx hub an hour from my house, back to the FedEx hub in the same town as the initial warehouse and then sitting there until the day my order was to be delivered.

Of course this is the first Newegg order I've ever placed to originate in their CA warehouse, 3600 miles away, after I chose UPS Ground. Cheaper by $1.00 and 1-2 days longer. Too bad you can't tell where an item is shipping from before you choose.

depends on what you order. I've always had good luck with UPS and Fedex seems to have a difficult time finding my house even though their hub is literally a 5 minute drive from my house and, on more than one occasion, I've had to go pick up my package because they could not find my house.

I've always had luck with the FedEx Saver shipping. Everything usually arrives within 2 days of ordering. My ND-3500A arrived next day!

UPS Ground would take quite a bit longer to get here to upstate NY from CA than FedEx Saver, but I have not had a lot of problem with either. But the old adage applies: The longer it will be in a shipper's hands, the better it needs to be packaged to arrive in good shape.

I'll have to try ZZF sometime.

I know Newegg has a warehouse in New Jersey, they shipped some things from my last order from that location.

Since no one here seems to understand a thing about shipping companies I am going to try and teach you something. Most are stating that the FedEx arrives faster than the UPS ground, well DUH. FedEx saver is air, so basically 2-3 days to anywhere in the US. UPS ground moves by... get ready... GROUND! From south cali UPS can hit almost anywhere in the US in 5 days.

All the delivery companies have ranges they hit in 1 day, 2 day, etc... when they go by ground, the differences are pretty minimal and really only change depending on hub location. The only equivalent UPS has to FedEx saver is their 3DS and that is usually around the same price as the FedEx saver on Newegg (I think it was $.30 more when I did my last shopping two weeks ago).

In short, yes the UPS ground option will almost always take longer unless you live in south cali/Arizona, then it will be next day service. Oregon, Nevada, NM, Colorado, Utah, and chunks of other states will be second day service and so forth. I personally prefer UPS (not just because I work there, honest ;) ) because the tracking is WAY more accurate than FedEx and the delays are less frequent. In fact, the only times my stuff has ever been delayed with UPS is when the train in front of the one my stuff was one got derailed and my package was a day late.

BTW, if anyone wants any more info on the way shipping companies work and want an inside opinion let me know.

My UPS shipment was delayed one day which I was notified through email. Out of curiousity, I pulled up the tracking page and under the status column they wrote, " Package was forgotten to be loaded into vehicle."

That is totally true and why I will NEVER ship FedEx ground. They do a great job with air, heck, even DHL does a decent job with air, but they SUCK at ground. I have yet to get a non-damage package on time from FedEx ground. UPS ground does result in some damage, but most I get are in great shape and the few that had damaged boxes the stuff inside was ok, unlike with FedEx...

FedEx is Faster, They shipped my overnight package to France overnight! To bad it was to be delivered on a Friday, and they couldn't explain how it got there, or how to get it back! Never refunded my $147 in shipping either.

They were also fast when it showed up 2 days early at the local center, and then I was told that I could not pick up the package because it was a 3 day package and it only took 1 day. So I had to wait 2 more days until the 3 days had passed.

How about the time I had to have newegg authorize me to pick up my own package? I though that was a good one.

Not that UPS is great, but I have never had so many problems with a shipping company as Fedex...except for those carrier pigeons I used that one time...

I am not sure if UPS does this but I checked tracking for a Fedex package one night and the package arrived at their hub that evening. I did not want to wait the entire next day for the package to arrive so I called Fedex and asked them if they could hold the package at the hub so I could pick it up in the morning because the hub was only 5 minutes from my house. They said no because they have to make at least one delivery attempt before holding it at their hub. I'm not sure I understand that policy. They could not find my house before and tracking said "Wrong address" so I called and they let me pickup the package at their hub with just my ID.

Well Spike, I worked at UPS for 4 years and I prefer FedEx. I have to say I never really had a bad experience with either company though.
