Newegg shipping oddity?

A few days ago I made two separate purchases a few days apart. I chose the cheapest shipping "Free Super Eggsaver 4-7 day"

Both items were shipped UPS right to my door in one day. The one day is normal when I order something that comes out of Edison New Jersey.

What is odd is that if I had paid extra for the Newegg 3rd business day it would have come FedEx in a day also.

What seems to have happened is that Newegg dropped the UPS 3rd day option for a FedEx 3rd day option. And added UPS to the 4-7 day method but not every time as sometimes it comes via USPS.

So basically if you choose the free 4-7 day option you may get it the next day UPS or via USPS mail in up to 7 days. And there is no way of knowing when you place the order.

Weird.

Yup. I'm in CT and just had that happen...I was just complaining about it the other day, the free 3-day shipping thing seems gone and replaced by the free 4-7 day shipping, but since most of the stuff comes from Edison, NJ, it shows up like next day, which is awesome 😀

Edit: We use Newegg at work a lot too, and tried out ShopRunner...it actually took longer after processing & special 2-day shipping, than just the normal route...guess it depends where your nearest distribution facility is, and whether or not they have your part in-stock there.

I gave up on trying to figure out their oddball shipping methods. I started buying all my computer parts from Amazon. The prices are typically the same, and I have 2-day free shipping with Amazon Prime. I know exactly when my packages will arrive.

Well... almost exactly. Even though almost everything I order before noon ships that day, the warehouse people will occasionally sit on it for an extra day before shipping.

Don't know why. *shrug*

My head hurts reading that. I don't think anyone has any idea how they are going to ship when you choose free, though sometimes they do specify free 3 day shipping.

What I hate is that hybrid option where it goes from UPS to the postal system black hole... slow and no way to tell when it'll arrive.

it will happen if you live close to distribution center. happens with me with Amazon, if it ships from Dallas, it reached in to days anyways if I use Prime or not.

The title made me think of that 'Science channel' show, and I thought maybe Newegg sent you a deformed fetus or something.

Just hope you don't get anything out of the Cali warehouse, takes forever. Because I ordered on Friday, it took 11 days to get a tube of thermal paste.

Random tip: Radioshack has thermal paste made by Arctic Silver. It's not their best uber-paste or whatever, but it works fine.

That ship time is absurd, though. Everything from FedEx ground to USPS priority (maybe even 1st class) makes it across the country within a week these days. Was that some kinda 'super saver' shipping, like Amazon's? If so, that's the problem. With Amazon, it seems to make your order just get thrown into a 'fuck you, we'll get around to shipping it whenever we feel like it' pile.

super shipping can be next day, or it can be 4-7 day via DHL. If you like to gamble, Newegg Super Shipping for the win.

It was the 3 day egg saver shipping at the time. I ordered on a Friday, it did not ship till Monday afternoon and for some reason, it did not make it here on the following Friday. It was that next Monday before it was delivered. So it was more like 10 days, with only 6 of those business days.

I <3 Amazon shipping. They always ship out same day and a half the time I get things in 1 day. I ordered a 12U Rackmount Enclosure today. 100lbs, free shipping and it will be here Monday. Pretty awesome!

I ordered my 4U 24 drive supermicro server on Monday and it will be here next Tuesday. Ordered the rack 4 days later and it will be here one day earlier 😀

I had the same thing happen to me about a week ago. Ordered ground shipping which usually get here next day but my crap shipped from NJ and it took a week.

I usually go in and check to see where its shipping from by this procedure.
Add to cart.
Go to checkout and make sure you have your zip code inputted.
Choose FedEx 3 day
Put in a dummy credit card pin.
Click next and on the last page where you submit your order it tells you estimated delivery time. For me its one day from Edison NJ.
I can then decide whether to change it to 4-7 day shipping

Step one, choose 3 day shipping.
Step two, choose some other method.

Step three, ask yourself why am I reading this thread?
