I bought a micro atx ecs mobo. cost $13 to ship.

now a bunch of the full size atx boards cost $7 to ship or even 5 sometimes.

Is it just them trying to make a buck since i bought basicalyl the cheapest socket 478 board they sell, i'm pretty sure thats it, just wondering if anyone else noticed this.

The way I see, if you don't like it, DON'T BUY FROM THEM. SIMPLE AS THAT.

Most of the time, NewEgg has pretty low prices to begin with so the shipping pretty much even things out (and it still comes out cheaper or about the same as the competitors). NewEggs stellar service is enough to keep me coming back for more.

yeah ididnt say it was bad. that motherboard still ended up being cheaper there. i dont get why they do that though, it just feels more misleading to the customer though i'll still buy from them. i figure they could just raise the price of the mobo and charge the same shipping for everything and well it'd seem more ethical, i guess they do that so they can get on top on pricewatch. oh well its business.

Frogdog recently surprised me to tell me that shipping a mobo, vid card, HD, cpu, and a couple of other small items was gonna cost me $30 US to my apartment in US - and if he wanted the same stuff shipped literally across canada from a different store it would cost $19 CAN (less than 1/2).

It is clear that newegg is using shipping to eek out a few extra $$$ in profit. They may not be the cheapest across the board anymore, but they are still, for the price, one of the best online e-tailersr out there IMHO.

Yes they overcharge on shipping. Simple tactic that is working for them because people keep buying, even though many other sites can get you the same price after shipping, and also have great service. Newegg is just another online site, nothing more.

No, not really, because if you shop around, 8 times out of 10, Newegg is going to be cheaper than a lot of other popular online resellers after the totals are added up including shipping. I've done that several times now, put several identical items in my shopping cart, then checked what the total would be with shipping and tax (if applicable), and Newegg was almost always less by at least a few bucks.

IMO, Newegg isn't trying to con or deceive anyone, I don't believe, nor are they trying to 'eek' out a few extra $$ in profit. What they are doing is trying to get a good ranking on the Price Shopper websites, trying to compete with those resellers who ARE trying to con and deceive you.

The fact is, even if a reseller doesn't like doing this, even if a reseller HATES 'padding' their shipping costs and would prefer not to do business this way, they have little choice because you know that most people who use those Price Shopper sites like Pricewatch rarely ever go beyond the first page of hits. If Newegg didn't do this, they would end-up on Page 5 or something, where few people look.

I think the worst thing about their shipping policy is that shipping isn't combined when you get multiple items....

For example - buying one DVD-R costs $4 to ship.... Now think how really big and heavy a 10-pack of those would be, and then be horrified to find out that shipping is $40. Yikes.
