Newegg shipping charges are getting out of hand!

As a regular customer, I guess I've been spoiled by flat fee rates for Fedex Super Saver shipping (usually 2 days to my door).

Now, everytime I place an order, they hit you with a shipping charge for every item. Example: A stick of RAM... $5 shipping. If you order 2, they charge you $10 even though they are coming from the same location in the same box!

Have they adjusted shipping charges for anyone out there who has called/emailed and explained the absurdity of this situation?

Yup,I answered a post the other day with the same topic. On a rig I'm building now I went over to Zipzoomfly and got the memory. Corsair, around the same price as Newegg and zero for shipping. I looked at Newegg first but $4.73 shipping for one stick and $9.46 if you want TWO?!?! Fill up all your slots and spend almost $15.00 just to ship three small sticks of memory--LOL

Those guys are nuts as of late. I used to buy almost exclusively from Newegg but I figured out their not the last word in on-line shopping like they want everyone to think. Try: Zipzoomfly,Directron,Mwave,Monarch Tech,1 CoolPC. Bought from all,had problems with none.

I agree with you. There should definitely be a bundle discount of some sort. Maybe if enough people respond to this, the Newegg Webmaster will come and say something to us again.

Sent them an email asking them to adjust the shipping charges to what I thought was a fair compromise. I'll post their reply.

I did shop around at other online stores (ones mentioned above) but other than the tax and shipping, the 'Egg had the best prices.

I may have my loyalties, but top priority is the wallet, so whoever has the best deal usually has my business.

The truth is that this is where newegg makes some of its profits. Sure others may be cheaper and "have free 2nd day shipping" but it also takes them 2-3 days to process your order. I will continue to shop at newegg.

Their high shipping charges for their small items seem to offset their cheaper shipping charges for heavy items.

I agree that if I buy a CD and two sticks of ram, I should not have to pay $12.00 for shipping.

I've always been amazed at how they've been so cheap, quick, and profitable at the same time... changing their shipping practices wouldn't surprise me as much as it irks me.

Newegg refused to pay for my RMA's shipping. The motherboard was a dead on arrival and they still didn't pay for it. I no longer type "neweggI and hit CTRL+ENTER when I want to buy parts. After near $10,000 I've spent on their site... oh well.

everybody makes you pay 1-way shipping for RMAs, and always has.

(You can probably find a counter-example somewhere on the web, but it will be someone like CDW that just charges you 10-20% more up front on every item you buy. So you pay for that RMA shipping over and over again even if you never need it.)

Not true. I have had RMAs from Amazon where I just printed out a shipping label from their site and dropped it off to go out at a UPS store. I forget where else but I know I had it happen with another company.

True, only time I haven't had to pay return shipping was when GoGamer.com sent me the incorrect game. Besides, they still haven't gotten their product back.

NewEgg spent a long time trying to be the internet shopping leader by keeping their profit margins as low as possible while building up their customer base. Now that they are established, they are looking to regroup.

ZipZoomFly has always given free shipping on most of their items, and the price difference is usually less than $2.00 on the entire order. They offer free 2-3 day shipping while NewEgg has charged almost $5.00 for 5-7 days.

I have had an account with ZipZoomFly since they were GoogleGear.com and have never had a problem. Great prices, fast and free shipping and great customer service...even no hassel RMA's.

🙂

Dell doesn't

Call them, they'll fix it. For 2 small light items the shipping was $5 per, they switched it to $5 for both.

BTW this was the first time I've ordered from them in over a year. I've heard bad things about the 'Egg unfortunately.

That isn't totaly true. I got a hard drive from Maxtor that worked long enough to format and transfer all my data and then proceeded to die. Maxtor e-mailed me a shipping label for UPS and I had a replacement drive within 2 days that was twice the capacity.

You think the egg's shipping is bad, try tigerdirect. I ordered a couple of fans; for the first one it was something like 11 dollars and an additional 5 for every other fan. Good thing I didn't order from them.

The fact that they never did use shipping as the way to make profits is why I always used Newegg for a long time (after Outpost stopped giving free Airborne overnight). Unlike some sites, they don't charge 15 dollars for 2 to 3 day shipping on each item, regardless of size. Just checked two sites, one charges 5 bucks for GROUND shipping, the other wants 13 dollars for 3 day, just for a CPU. They don't give any option like Zipzoomfly, where you can have free FedEx or pay for UPS if you have a non-standard shipping address.

They've gotten bad lately though. They can't even get orders processed in the same day anymore. Used to be I could order in the morning and get the tracking number later in the evening. Now I don't get it till late evening of the next day. Even when I request the expedited processing, they end up refunding me the $2.99 fee because they didn't get it done on time.

holiday time or even before that ?

Even before that. I'm not sure Newegg really gets a holiday rush though, not so much like a real store like Walmart does.

I want an option when I order that says "I'm just ordering this like normal, this isn't me waiting till the last minute to make holiday orders" so they give me priority because I'm just treating it like a normal day.

Making money on shipping is a pet peeve of mine. I refuse to absurd shipping charnges. I sent them an e-mail saying their shipping policy is backwards, it actually encourages you not to buy more product.

I've never paid shipping to return a defective item, nor will I ever.
A lot of times, I've had companies issue me an immediate replacement and they'll charge my card for it. When they receive my returned item, they credit me the total amount.
