Newegg Shell Shocker: Vertex 2 120GB SSD for $199.99

Well, not sure what you mean by "how hot is it?" If OCZ is good about rebates, $169 definitely seems like a good deal.

Newegg seems to be making room for the new SSDs.

As much as I want a SSD is as much as I don't want to touch it until prices go down.

Just can't bring myself to justify it.....YET

yea im getting pretty close to just saying F it and getting one.

I just don't know if faster windows start up, app start up and loading really even matter to me.

Saving few seconds when gaming is 0 concern...

Prices will have to come down A LOT before I pull the trigger, especially since money is not growing on trees these days.

If you need a SSD get this one. It's a smoking deal. You can wait on the new ssd's but they will be full retail price and you couldn't tell a difference without using a benchmark. I already have a x-25 g2 80gb, vertex 120gb, and an agility 120gb or I'd be all over this. That and I don't want to hear my wife bitching that I spent more money on unneeded stuff.:/

120gb is plenty for your boot drive and most if not all of your apps. Now if we're talking about putting your steam folder on their too then even 160gb isn't enough. I have an intel 80gb for my boot and I use a 120gb agility for my game drive.

If you need a SSD you better jump on this! It will sell out!

Did it ever? 😉

I kind of regret missing out on the C300 for $99 deal. Need a 60GB+ SSD for my work laptop. I think more people should upgrade their work machines first. After all, it's the one you use 8+ hours a day.

I can't see any real reason I'd NEED one for my home rig, but I'm sure I'll get one when the next gen drives come out.

Dammit, now you got me thinking. Are we sure that the "real word" impact of the new drives is negligible? Any benchmarks out there? If so, I might just jump on this.

I got one for my work laptop and it is amazing to work with compared to my peers laptops. We have a standard hardware configuration for our laptops too, so the only difference is the SSD in mine. It's also nice to not have to worry about jarring the laptop when it's on a plane with you.

Well, in the wake of Intel's chipset disaster, looks like I won't be doing my build anytime soon. I went ahead and bought the Vertex 2 for my work machine. If the new drives aren't all that, I might move this one to my build and pick up a cheaper SSD for work.

For those who are wondering, OCZ is solid on rebates, although it takes 2-3 months before you recieve your rebate card in the mail.

I just paid $230 for this drive a few weeks ago. If you count the rebate, that is a pretty good deal. 120gb's is plenty for most people. I have BFBC2 and several other smaller programs installed on this drive and I still have 80gb's free.

Oh cool since Newegg's facility is less than 30 miles away it was already delivered but left on my front porch.. Now the question is to whether play with it on my desktop first or wait for my laptop to set it up.

Damn you, mine is scheduled for Thursday. I'm guessing it would have been Weds if it wasn't for impending blizzard.

As for which machine, it totally depends on which of the two machines has a slower HDD. I vote for laptop.
