I bought a Gainward GeForce4 MX440 and I keep getting problems with the picture turning all sorts of different colors. I've narrowed it down to the video card and I'm trying to return the card. I told them they sold me a defective part that didn't work the first time I put it in. They're charging me $11.70 for the restocking fee. Why are they doing this? This makes no sense when they sold me a defective part.

Look at the terms you bought it under.
Many of the components are clearances.

Sold as no refunds, only exchange, or re-stock fee.

Its probally the cost of shipping back to them, repacking, repackaging your new item, and shipping it back to you.

Most companies do this, including BestBuy. Newegg didn't intentionally sell you a defective part, its not there fault, but rather Gainwards.

Hmmm... That is very weird. Newegg never charged me a restocking fee when the item I purchased was defective. They only charge you a restocking fee if there isn't anything wrong with the item. Also, many items they sell say no refund or restocking fee in the description box, so you might want to read those before you buy something.

NewEgg has a great RMA policy. How long did you own the card before you decided it was defective?

Also, are you asking for a refund or a replacement (either same item or equivalent). I've used Newegg's RMA before and it's more than fair compared to others.
