Newegg Refurbs are a feeding frenzy- what's your experience?

I am a die hard Newegg refurb junkie. I've had great luck and found myriad bargains, but it's getting to be rediculous. Today I *needed* a bargain hard drive and set a timer to pop open my Opera browser on the 5 minutes and alert me to changes on the site so I know I got there fast, but when I sterted looking everything there was tat was worth a damn (video cards, drives, burners, readers, CPUs) was gone. All within minutes.
It got me thinking that it would be interesting to see how other bargain hunters deal with checking this site and getting to the stuff as soon as it is posted?
Do people have custom scripts or other goodies to check at close intervals? How are folks so on the money as to when the refurbs are posted?
What's your experience?

actually, fausto found me the card i got. 😀 thanks buddy!

Question: When a customer sends in a refurb, does it automatically show up on refurb items once it is fixed/repackaged? Or does Newegg build up stock of a particular refurb item and then release it on the web on a scheduled basis?

you need to use the program that my friends and i used for a while; one of my friends pinged newegg every 3 seconds, up until the point that newegg banned his ip!! ahahhaha

I've gotten 3 refurb motherboards - 2 were good and 1 was bad. The RMA is painless though, so you might as well give it a try if you're not in a hurry.

Another site that I usually go to everyday. I use the auto-notify to e-mail me if the refurb item is back in stock.
One thing I like is that their inventory is updated real time.

Wanted to order another Asus A7N8X Deluxe for $89 and was notified via e-mail that it was available. When I tried to order it was no longer available. Somebody beat me to it. I usually order refurb cases, MB and Power Supplies.

Ordered these MB and they all work. 6 out of 6. I'll be switching soon to the Intel MBs.

Abit KR7A-Raid
Gigabyte GA-7DXR+
Gigabyte GA-7VRXP v1.1
Gigabyte GA-7VAXP v1.1
Tyan S2460
Asus A7N8X Deluxe v.104 - needed backplate. Called Asus Tech and got one w/in a week.

Cases ordered. Got all the cables, screws, drive holders.

Antec SX-1030B, SX-1040B, Antec SLK2600AMB and Chenming AX-01SLD w/acrylic window (got a free Turbolink 420W as a bonus).

Power Supply.

Enermax EG365P-VE (350 W)- Blue case w/ 2 fans. Works like a charm and quiet too.

Ordered a Generic 300W PSU for $ 13.00 last week, but got it today DOA. It was a Enhance ATX-1125BTA R-300 w/c usually sells for $36.95. Requested for a RMA on-line. Gives we 14 days to return it for exchange. Shipping up to $10 will be reimbursed/credited to your CC. Called Newegg about it and they acknowleged that they get their refurbs from the manufacturer. The returned items are sent to the manufacturers who then fixes/refurbishes it. Then they are returned to Newegg w/out the accessories. They don't usually test if it works or not. That is one part don't understand. Hopefully I get one back that works. :disgust:

The refurbs through them are very hit and miss. I received a refurb processor and when I got it the corner was broken off! Yeah, that one works...😛 I also got a refurb mobo last week and every single one of the plastic tabs that hold the heatsink on was broken off. They sure did lots of testing on that one to make sure it worked too....😕

And yes, it is a feeding frenzy. I have a little proggy that notifies me the instant they have an item in stock I am looking for, even if it is not linked on Neweggs site. Funny how most of the good stuff is gone before most people even have a chance to buy it.........:Q😛

I've gotten two refurbs from NewEgg:

Abit nForce board
Asus nForce board

Both were DOA. Luckily, I got my money refunded back, but I had to pay return shipping.

I got the following from them

Lian-li Case for $59<---Basically new nothing was missing, everything was included in the box.
Geforce 4 ti4600 $180<---everything was included in the Original box, has been working for the past 6 months
Power supply $25<---- Works great.
Dvd Drive $20<--- this one gives me a little problem reading CDRWs but could have been b/c its a SONY? 😕
IBM Harddrive $50 <--- Works great Knock on wood.

From Newegg:

Does Newegg.com pay for the return shipping of defective items?
Newegg is not responsible for manufacturer defects. We are not manufacturers. Since we are not the manufacturer we split the shipping cost with the customer. The customer pays for shipping to Newegg.com and Newegg.com pays for the shipping back to you.

Th bad thing is that they will not even ship you out another item if a refurb is defective because they usually have very few in stock....🙁

Same with me. Epox ones must come straight from the factory, they've come in retail boxen, with all the accessories/manuals/cables etc.

My experiences:

1. Antec true power 430 watt- good
2. Another true power 430 watt-bad, took out my floppy drive, work great for 2 hrs
3. One AMD cpu xp2000, wouldn't even boot up
4. One Intel Pent IV 2.2, works. Not much of an overclocker though
5. One Pent IV CoolMaster-probably returned cause its so freaking loud.

Computer parts and electronics are things I never buy refurbs of.
I know that many people get incredible deals and the products sometimes work great, but I have no desire to buy a product that someone already returned.

heh...card turned out to be bad. had to RMA it. lost like $7 in restocking fees and $10 in shipping. 🙁

two WD 80gig SE drives.....absolutely no problems, 4 months and counting (there'd better not be, they're running in raid 0!)

Maybe I'm just ignorant, but how in the world would you refurb a processor?? Aside from maybe fixing a broken pin, what else could the manufacturer do?

Newegg refurbs are usually just things people returned because it wasn't what they wanted or somthing they thought they needed but really didn't need. Note the usually in there 🙂
