Newegg refurbished AMD XP 2100?

Has anyone bought a refurbished CPU from Newegg? I'm thinking about a new 2100 for my A7M266 motherboard and the refurbed CPU is about $20 cheaper ($87 vs. $65).

There was a post here recently by someone who purchased 2 refurbished Tbred 1700 XPs. He had a heck of time overclocking one of them (to somewhere near XP 2700 speed I think).

cpu's and memory are two things i don't like to purchase refurbished
cause they are too delicate and expensive
hehe

but if it works that's a good deal

and alot of the time the rma'd parts are from mad ocers who couldnt get good results with them

i would avoid them

Where did you find a refurbed cpu on newegg's site? I may just be blind, but their refurb section doesn't list cpus. A refurbed one would be good for me as I won't be able to overclock it and it may not even be compatible with my motherboard...

I don't know about refurbished... I just bought a 2100+ from Newegg and now my computer won't boot at all!!! It powers on for about 5 seconds and then just shuts right off with no errors or anything.. I put old cpu back in and it works fine. its a 1.2 Ghz Athlon.

for the $20 I think it worth it to go with no refurbish.. especially cpu

Bought a refurb 2100+ TBred "B" AIUHB 0302 for $69 from newegg almost 3 weeks ago. OC'd to 2283 MHz (13.5 mult x169 FSB) @ 1.70 VCore. Getting CPU Temp 35 C (idle) and MB Temp 25 C. Trying for 2.4 GHz, but looks like I'll need PC3200 DDR. As always your YMMV.

Items often don't show in refurb list if they have none.

Totally agree, don't buy refurb CPUs. I've been reading overclocking forums for years, and the hot rods return them all the time, probably after a serious overdose of voltage. Who knows how good their cooling was?

New 1700+ "B"=$50 shipped!

the abit board i'm currently using is unstable with random crashes and USB problems. 3/8 other different mobos been returned so far, one of them literally caught fire and took my samsung DDR with it. AWESOME!!

its really a game of russian roulette with newegg refurbs, my $35 lite-on 48x CDRW does wonders but the lite-on 16x DVD which i also got for $35 has problems recognizing DVDs now as well as CD-RW discs, often have to reboot

and refurb hard drives.....
