OK, I thought it was great to get good prices on refurbs, and I can deal with the DOA's, but I just had a Radeon 9800 pro for $176 give out after 45 days, called newegg, and they said 15 days, so I am out $176 for 45 days on a video card. Anybody else had this ?

And maybe some other problem caused this ? tried in 3 other computers with the same results.

Don't their refurbs still come with a manufacturer warranty? 15 days is just the time to return it to Newegg for refund/replacement.

Do 9800 Pros have a habit of going out? Or do I just hear about it so much because its such a popular card? Yeah, that must be it.

Try licking the agp end of the card. When something doesnt work right, I lick it, and sometimes it works. I wish it would work on my phone line...

That's the nature of refurbs, unfortunately. The manufacturers are supposed to test them instead of Newegg, so you may have luck with them.

I'm about 30 days into a refurb 9800pro. It looked and smelled (yes) new, so I'm hoping whoever had it just saw the crappy memory and returned it without installing it.

i simply don't see your "problem".

NewEgg sells refurbs depending on how the7y do business with the manufacturer - they probably get a "credit" for defective or returned stuff - they THEN sell them at a DEEP DISCOUNT and you get the Warranty Problems or a good product - it's a crapshoot.

After 15 days - which is PLENTY to return a DOA product - you get the joy of the manufacturer's RMA which is why you paid so little for it. :p

I contacted sapphire, and their answer was
We do not take care of refurbish product from newegg.com even though their RMA replacement info says the manufacturer is responsible for RMAing your refurbish card but we already talk to them about this issue, they will still the one who is responsible for helping end users get their card process please contact them again for your RMA replacement service.

So I called newegg back, and after a lengthy discussion including a supervisor, they will let me send it back for a refund. At this point I don't know who is the hero here, but the bottom line is, that newegg must have decided that "the buck stops here" and given in.

At any rate, they are still batting 1000 in my book. Sapphire sucks though, get a made by ATI or at least not a refurb.

People are cheap and buy lots of refurbs.
$210 return-whenever (for non-refurbs, they take stuff LONG after they say they will) vs. $175 oh well, you blew it.

Personally, I'm hoping for a LeadTek or BFG, but the NVidia card prices kinda suck for the performance (right now). If you go ATi and might ever need to return it, get BBA. The worst hassle of it is having to find the serial number and copy it for them.

Don't buy refurbs. Newegg does not test them. You have a pritty good chance of getting something I killed and got exchanged/refunded.

over 80% of the "built by ati" cards are made by sapphire.

Sapphire is UNbelievable! :p

Thank-you . . . i will make SURE a Sapphire product is NEVER in my computer.

NewEgg did "right". Kudos to them. :)

MOST (reputable) companies will extend the manufacturer's warranty to cover a refurb product.

glad to hear it all worked out ... but check out the grammar in that response from Sapphire! That was funny!
