I've just returned a Toshiba DVD writer under RMA to newegg which stopped working. I bought the drive around 8 months ago. I got an email today to say that the item was no longer available, and they would either repair the item or give me a credit for the drive.

I was wondering, when i bought the drive it cost me $172, but the cost of drives has come down. Does anybody have any experience with refunds like this, and know if you get the full price you paid ?

Evadman, mother in law got email from newegg last nite to say they were refunding her money, but only refunded her $90, not the $172 she paid. She's not happy that she did not get the full refund. If it was me i would be happy to get enough of a refund to go from a 2x speed dvd writer to an 8 speed writer.

That is a little bizarre. Rather than refunding you $90 (which is kind of insulting) they just should have offered to send you a brand new working drive of equal or better specs.

Obivously you can go buy your own with the $, but that sort of sucks that they just sent you an arbitrary $ amount.

When my Lite-On 24x CDRW went bad after 7 or so months, I sent it back to newegg. They send me a brand new 48x CDRW (lite-on). It was out of warranty also.
