The AOPEN was in stock for about 1.5 hours when it came online.

Sigh. I told my friend it would most likely be 2-4 weeks before we saw the good brand GB boards at newegg and in-stock for a reasonable amount of time and talked him into going ahead with a P4PE. At least it isn't the Asus or the Gigabyte board that's in stock, because then I would feel even worse.

Don't feel too bad. The P4PE are great boards, and so far Granite Bay's limited availibility and outrageous prices have been dissapointing. Unless he's a serious overclocker, I don't think your friend is losing out too badly. If I don't see an ASUS or Gigabyte board at a reasonable price by the end of next week, I'm going with a P4PE myself and will hold out for Canterwood. ASUS officially released the P4G8X on November 14th. I would really like to know what happened that caused such a serious delay...

I e-mailed Newegg yest about the GB boards, specifically Gigabyte and Asus, here was his reply:

"I just checked with the warehouse was informed that we expect to receive the gigabyte board by the end of this month. Have a nice day.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please visit our FAQs page at http://www.newegg.com/app/faq.asp or just drop us a line and we'd be happy to assist you.

Best Regards
Dave "

Hope we see the Asus soon at resonable prices.

My argument to my friend was... save some money now by getting P4PE and the 2.4B, then a year from now upgrade to a dual channel DDR motherboard that supports 800fsb along with a reasonably priced 800fsb hyper threading P4 processor - probably for under $400.

He needed a working system a month ago... all these GB delays have been most annoying. If the newegg estimate for ASUS and Gigabyte is the end of the month, then I'm not feeling any remorse.

The Supermicro GB board has one of the best and cleanest lay-outs I've ever seen in a motherboard. But at $230, I would wait for other offerings first.

naddicott...under $400 bucks seems like a reach to me...mark my words...spring dale won't be out till June/July 2003, and a p4@3.5 won't be along till august. The 3.5 will probably be the end of the line for the p4. Canterwood in 6 months time will be the same thing GB is this year...expensive and hard to get! I hear Q2 2003...but we'll see. Take a look at GB, when was it released...November 2002...and how available is it now(almost 2 months later)? A years time...$400 bucks...I'm not as optimistic as you are my friend.

That's it! Supermicro is out of stock now as well...

Many retailers are estimating this Monday is when they'll be getting the GB boards in, but if history repeats itself, that will be pushed back early Monday morning :(
