R9 270 > R9 370 (Remember R9 270 is just a slightly downclocked R9 270X)

This is currently the fastest NEW graphics card under $120. Essentially GTX950 2GB level of performance for $90.

Now, I know some of you are going to ask how does it compare to GTX750/750Ti?

R9 270 is 57% faster vs. GTX750 and 31% faster vs. GTX750Ti.

If you are playing Dota 2, League of Legends, CS: GO, Warframe, World of Tanks, World of Warships, this card is solid upgrade on a budget.

If you are on a tight budget and cannot decide if you want to get a $300 PS4/XB1 or just drop in a $90 graphics card into your rig, with 2GB of VRAM, 1280 shaders @ 955mhz, 32 ROPs, 80 TMUs, this is faster than PS4's graphics card.

Looks like this is still available. Any idea how these would be in Crossfire? I saw one review indicating that 2 use less power than a single 290X?

It's not worth it to get 2x a lower end card and having to deal with scaling sometimes not working right. The configuration of a 270 is exactly half of a 290/390, but the latter have no scaling issues since they are single GPU.

The 270 is still AMD's fastest 1x6pin GPU. As a Pitcairn though, it is GCN feature set 1.0 so be advised if you are interested in Freesync and VSR (although probably not a huge deal with a slower card). Also it is not XDMA Crossfire so another negative against trying two of them.

Crisium is spot on. This card only makes sense for a budget gaming rig, while still delivering excellent performance for $90. If you are willing to spend $180, it's much better to go with a single R9 290/390/970. Don't forget that with those cards you also get 3.5-4GB of VRAM vs. 2GB on the R9 270 CF.

Thanks for the details, just exploring all options. I think I'll just wait until next year...I'm still getting by with a GTX 560. I haven't seen a GTX 970 drop to the $180-200 level yet even with all the stacked offers/rebates and the 290 was showing higher heat/power usage than I wanted.

Ya, if you waited this long and you can budget $180-200 for next year, you will get something decent. I don't expect NV/AMD having anything good at $199 though. The new sweet-spot is now $299-349. You should be able to snag a $200 970 though by 2016.

Have a 280 in my "media" pc which sees some light gaming and while I should have a 480 to put in it 'soon' once my RMA comes back, this is almost cheap enough to get for more performance/less power-noise.

Looking at eBay prices of 480, they are going for $58-75 or sometimes higher. If you time it well, it might be possible to sell the GTX480 for $40-45 in 2016 and find a $90 GTX960/R9 380 2GB. There is a decent performance bump between R9 270/950 and 960/380.

After looking at the GPU comparison, it does look like an upgrade.
So, my son will continue his induction into the PC master race on xmas morning.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, RS

Thanks! Make sure to take pictures of all the rebate info as I've read some reviews on this card of people not getting their rebate. The rebate also allows you to post-mark it within 30 days of the purchase date. That means there is plenty of time to use the card after X-mas and if something goes wrong you can return the card to Newegg:

"We want to ensure your holiday shopping this year is hassle-free. That’s why we’re automatically extending our return policies on almost every product! For purchases placed between November 1, 2015 and December 24, 2015 you will have until January 31, 2016 to return your product. There's nothing additional that you have to do!"

It'll give you plenty of time to try out the card to see if there are any issues and enough time to resend in the rebate after X-mas.

Heh, that build sounds very much like a pair I did this weekend, using the same Tt Versa case, eVGA 430w PSU and the FX-6300. I went with the Powercolor 6950 1GB card for $50 on one of the builds, with the perpetually rebated XFX 550w PSU. It was a very good time to put together a budget build.

With all of the parts that I picked up, I'm looking at building 4 total builds for CL sale. Just wish I would have built them a few weeks ago so that I could list them before Xmas, as they won't sell easily after the holidays.
