So I am looking at Polk Monitor series to upgrade our HT for future budget HT build. This is not for my room like my P162 + PS12 so don't worry about matching to those!

I am looking at

Monitor 30 bookshelf
Monitor 40 bookshelf

CS1 center
CS2 center

Which combination would you run?

So far I am thinking Monitor 40 front, Monitor 30 rear, CS2 center

Thoughts? Mainly for TV, Movies, PS3, and low importance, music (in order of importance)

IMO the CS1 is a better center for any of the Monitors. It has the same 5.25" woofers, while the CS2 has 6.5" woofers. I would go for the same driver complement across all 3 fronts, and it looks like you're going to get the same with the Monitor 30's or 40's. As an added benefit, the CS1 should be smaller and easier to fit under your TV.

Looks like TigerDirect has the Monitor 40 refurbs for $115.

Well isn't the C more important? You can't get a 6.5" driver on the Monitor series unless you go way up to Monitor 70.

Monitor 40's I am looking at are new @ 130 CDN which is far better than 115 USD refurb

I am not worried about phyiscal size limitations as right now we don't even have a tv for this to go with

However, this is all for finishing our basement and setting up a nice sound area... if we can finish it in a way that I can setup my PC down there then we don't need to buy these speakers and I can re-use my system from my room, by just adding rears or better fronts and a center

best solution is Monitor 70 + CS2 :p

I am limiting the choices to Monitor 30/40 due to price, and possibly throw in the cheapest floor standing for good comparison though

What do you think mr fox?

The 70s are 180 each

and you get 4x6.5 mid range compared to 2x5.25 on the 50.

Monitor 50s are 80 each so it's hard to argue against that

I don't have any bookshelf. All four corners are tower speakers, though the rears are 2x5.25 compared to the front's 4x6.5

4x6.5 is making me drool

Hmm, maybe the most financially sound choice is to buy a floor standing monitor with CSII and use my old speakers as rear

I think this is what I will do... Monitor 70 is too expensive though

speakers last a long time so it makes sense to spend on them.

I agree, but it totally depends on whether it becomes my hideout, as opposed to my room. If it becomes my hideout it will definitely get the usage to justify it's cost...

I am just trying to balance how much the P362 + PC350 go on sale for compared to these Polk, in my head right now too

Infinity Primus P362 floor, PC350 center (match my P162's I currently have in my room)

Goes on sale for 200 ea, and 150 ea sometimes at BestBuy

There is always that option. These Polks are on sale every other week.

Oh are they? This is teh first time I saw them thats why I was so excited... gives me more time to mull over this...

Either way I foresee purchases being made for TV, Reciever, Speakers by boxing day :)

I have personally seen them on sale for at least five times within the last two years.
