If it's just for gaming, and you're not doing high-quality online game streaming, or content-creation, then a 3600(X) is probably your safest bet (for the money). Though, 16C/32T is SO "crazy" on a consumer desktop. I do DC and mining, so something like that might be tempting for me, but it's a bit out of my budget range.

And the problem with spending so much is that you have to keep it a long time to make it worthwhile. Then the 4000 series comes out and you wish you had just held back longer.
