Newegg now has Asus NForce board for $110.00!!

Thats right, based on the NForce 415 (without built-in video). Just ordered one😀

Model # is A7N266-C. It DOESN'T use the C-media chip for sound, rather it uses the Nvidia one (with Dolby-digital, all the better!).

me......want.......nforce......420........cheap......microatx too..........the 415 takes away the main reason i'd want an nforce, which is a totally integrated system that performs decently, has high quality sound, and is cheap.

Then..go..Abit...mobo....microATX.....with built-in sound......video......around $140.00.......

140 is not that cheap for a mobo....indeed it is a good deal considering what you get, but $140 just doesnt say "cheap" to me.

i'm poor right now anyways so i wont be buying much of anything :/

Yea, i got a newegg alert that the board was in. I will probably get one next week if I get my profit sharing check, and sell this hunk a junk shuttle ak31v3. So what if they say its slightly faster. Its stability blows.

So which 2 slots on the Asus should I populate with ram? the nforces have that speed up with 2 sticks in the right slots right?

With this MB I wont have any external pci cards plugged in at all. Just the video card!!

Certainly a good deal, especially when you take into consideration that ASUS always overcharges for their boards.

This is good news for other non-gfx nForce boards. Any 415-D or 615-D boards in the future should be no more than $115-120 unless they have RAID or any other extras like that.

I called yesterday and asked if it was a retail or oem board as newegg and their listing on pricewatch conflict. The sales rep says it does look like it's OEM, though what that means I dont know, dont think I've ever seen oem packaged MB's before. What I neglected to ask is if the board had the optional NIC. I don't see any RJ45 jack in the pictures on Newegg's site. =(

There are a bunch of other online stores selling A7N266-C boards without the "BUNDLES ONLY" requirement, although I'd ask Newegg about that anyway just to make sure it's OK to buy the board and not be forced to buy anything else...

This board locks your PCI and AGP clocks when you OC. Yeah I notice that they say "for bundles only" but that didn't stop them from sending one to me without anything else😉 ( I already have the tracking #). The missing NIC is kinda bummer but I have a few generic Realtek 10/100 NICS lying around so its no biggie. I was more after the sweet built-in sound, which is even better than Audigy (interms of sound quality and CPU usage) and has Dolby Digital decoding. That alone saves you $30-60 from buying a seperate quality sound card.

As for the memory, it has three slots. One is seperate from the other two. This is where you install your first DIMM first.

It should be consecutive. DIMM 1 should be occupied first, then DIMM 2 and 3. When using only DIMM 1, the its 64-bit. Adding memory to 2 (and 3 if you have more) enables 128-bit mode.

<< whats so great about nforce >>

The excitement is strange. It's nice to have a solid alternative to Via but the nforce isn't the second coming.

<< whats so great about nforce? i thought kt266a beat it in benchmarks? >>

The one of many things is that it has Dolby Digital on it instead of throwing in Creative product in there.

What I like is the unified driver solution and not the VIA drivers.

<< whats so great about nforce? i thought kt266a beat it in benchmarks? >>

1. It's been reliable and stable for the 6 months or so that it's been on the market.

2. It doesn't get "beat by the KT266A in benchmarks." nForce 415-D is slightly faster, but the difference is negligible, just like how the KT266A is negligibly faster than the 420-D.

3. Comes with some good features. nForce sound, LAN, modem, and most of the time an NIC of some sort (depends on the motherboard manufacturer).

i was under the impression that the southbridge supports native 10/100 ethernet...so why is everyone, if the option is included, manufacturing them w/ 3rd party realtek chipsets?

this board only has audio built in?....where's the hype?

<< What I like is the unified driver solution and not the VIA drivers. >>

the only thing better about nvidia's installation package is it will install video drivers if you have a card. theres still 6 drivers in that package.

True, but you don't have to hunt down the specific one all the time. Just d/l the one and that's it.

I bought one of the MSI ones a few months back (with integrated video) and it works well. (well in Windows at least, most out of the box Linux distros don't like it) Actually that was in a computer I built for somebody but when the 615 comes out, I will be replacing my KT133 with it.
