wow the best part of having it there was that you can comparison shop with the final out-the-door price. Did they do this for profit reasons now? Can't imagine so.

Is the shipping different for where you are? Maybe they are trying to be fair and only charge TRUE shipping cost???

Just tried it, does not seem to be the case.

Wow that blows. Before I could shop for a few items, and just grab the one with the free shipping. Now I have to go through and compare 10+ things to find the better edeal on shipping. :(

Wow. That's a horrible, horrible change. If they wanted to show actual shipping costs, they should allow you to enter your zip code once and have all the shipping charges displayed for you. If they wanted to provide a shipping discount, calculate the incremental shipping cost of an item based on what's already in the cart. Not displaying a shipping charge at all makes comparison shopping extremely difficult.

I shop at Amazon.com because most items qualify for free shipping (and the 3rd party stores display the shipping price). When I shop for tech goods, I hit newegg first because I know what the item will actually cost me. If this change sticks, I probably won't be going to newegg as my first choice anymore than I go to mwave.

Just look AND order items with free shipping...
Although, I have to say that the "change" does suck a bit...

I've purchased thousands of dollars of merchandise from them and I wrote the webmaster stating my disapproval with this new change. I also stated that if it's not changed back I will likely shop with other Online shops which do show the shipping prices on the same page with the product. Thanks to the OP for bringing this to my attention.

On a side note, I wish Amazon had more and cheaper tech gear, because Amazon Prime comes in really handy for most anything I order.

after reading their response in that other thread, it's not so bad. At least free ship items will still indicate so... and that's what I'm looking for. If it has a shipping cost, that usually does not factor into my comparison to another product anyway (usually the same ship cost if there is a ship cost) and I eat it no matter what.

Of course I can see this to be more difficult if you only buy one item at a time, all the time.

To kind of go along with this, I just got a letter from UPS stating that they are increasing shipping cost by 6% :(

wow how times change. used to be when someone said anything negitive (no matter how true) they would be flamed. about time people see what is going on.

the last 3-4 years newegg has changed. it used to be a place i would buy without bothering to look at other stores since they were always the cheapest, best shipping and the costumer service was amazing. now? its just another store. this move just showes that they are changing and are not the same store they were 5 years ago.

there are cheaper places with better shipping and as good costumer support.

What a terrible terrible change, I think this knocks Newegg from it's perch at the top of my shopping list....

Agreed. Hiding shipping costs in the cart is pretty sleazy, IMO. Feels like they are trying to scam people into thinking that items are cheaper than they are at honest stores and then gambling that they'll just eat the shipping charges.

Shit, I can even sort the shipping equation into my results on EBAY. Not good for Newegg to disable that.

We apologize for the confusion. The shipping costs on our site were removed as we have a new system where the correct weight of the order is totaled in instead of the added shipping cost from each item. This gives you the lowest shipping cost possible. To view the shipping, simply add the item to your shopping cart and enter your zip code to view that information.

I guess you can take that for face value. From a business perspective I can see a couple possibilities on why they did this:

1. They did alpha/beta testing on the website, where for a smaller random sample of visitors they offered without shipping. This may have yielded a higher purchase success rate than with the shipping costs identified. Then they applied this principle to the entire site.

2. They were getting inaccurate and volatile per item shipping costs and it was adversely affecting sales.

Or could be combination of both.

In any case, too bad for them. I intend to check other retailers first until they fix it.

Yea a esay fix would be to say shipping maxs out at $XX.XX. That way you see what the max shipping is and once you add it to your cart, along with anything else, it may go down.
That way its easy to compare prices shipped and also still tells you it may be cheaper.
