I love this disclaimer!!

There are tway too many people whoa ctually use the NewEgg comstomer comments as fact in order to make a purchase.
Which is just plain....not smart!!

Newegg screens their reviews though. Not really sure where you're going with this one...

Point being, some poeple base their purchasing decisions on the user reviews alone. You and I know that's not the smartest thing but, disclaimer or not, most will still act that way.

I know I've seen a disclaimer very similar to that on NE before. Maybe they took it down.

And they absolutely know that user reviews influence people. That's why they're there, and that's why they delete undesirable ones.

I think they mostly only delete reviews that say bad things about Newegg itself. For instance, if you say the product was crap but Newegg was amazing (in shipping, packaging or whatever) then it would probably get posted.

Honestly, I believe the disclaimer would be useless. Those intelligent enough to know that the reviews are useless don't need the disclaimer, and those who use the reviews won't heed the disclaimer. It's a moot point.

It is pretty well known (among AT Forums) that Newegg.com does the samething on their website and they do disclose it, but you will have to really search the site to find it.

NewEgg doesn't like it if you refer to a rival e-tailer that has the product for a lower price. They also don't (didn't?) like any number after the $ sign...(notice all those $xxx's?)
And yeah, NewEgg had that same disclaimer before. As far as relying on Customer Reviews goes, check out the new DFI Lanparty UT CFX3200-DR page. It's got 10 reviews - nine of them don't even know it but know "DFI is legendary, hence five stars." This other Einstein talks about how it overclocks like a dream, yet posts no details other than that its a FX-60. Like u need a $200+ enthusiast mobo that does 350HTT+ to overclock a FX-60...

yeah, it is that hard to find. I can tell you from my personal experience that I have posted at least a half a dozen (or so) very useful revews on that site and had all off them rejected by the post screener.

The last line of their ratings and reviews policy, but I also remember the line that stated that the buyer comments should not be one's sole purchase reference or some such.

Frankly, while the reviews should be taken with a big grain of salt and run through a Newbie Detector, they are more useful than the ludicrous "Testimonials" that Newegg keeps putting up  If any of the Powers That Be from Newegg are reading this, please Stop Posting That Retarded Nonsense?! THANK YOU. :p

agreed
I read the reviews and the people that have no idea of which they speak I ignore.
I do take them with a grain of salt also.

If only Outpost.coms website was as easy to navigate as neweggs.

I've always found the problem reports in reviews helpful, especially when there seems to be a pattern.

When I was shopping for socket 939 motherboards recently, I saw they all have quality control / early death problems but some have other issues.

The bar charts were also useful for the motherboards that had 25+ reviews.

i think they should have a forum style posting system, where you could pm people with questions.

I usually find the reviews on Newegg pretty helpful. I would say half of the ppl know what they are saying and thats what counts. In fact I usually end up sorting by the product having most reviews or highest ratings and after a bit of my own research find that thats usually the best product.

If theres any reason why I go to newegg other than their super fast servce and great CS is the reviews.

And I seriously doubt if putting a disclaimers gonna help. as some1 said. ppl who are dumb enuff to not know these are just user reviews probably wont be going thru the disclaimers.

I often find Newegg reviews useful if there are a great many reviews for the product. However, Newegg's review screening needs to be reworked. I've seen product reviews posted by people that didn't even have the product. Huh? Exactly how that makes it past the screening process is beyond me.

they changed it awhile back... you cant post a review without purchasing said product anymore. The disclaimer is on the page where you submit the review. So if you never left a review.. yeah its kinda hard to find

I've never really paid to much attention to NE reviews. Everytime I take a look, I see lots of crazy "cons". These are along the lines of saying the capacity is to small for a 256MB USB drive. It is what it is, it isn't a "con" for the product. Disclaimer or no, you'll likely have to bypass reviews like this and look for some decent ones.

Then again, if I see a product has 5 stars based on 400+ reviews, I figure they can't all be wrong. :)
