If all goes as planned (And I don't lose my job:)), NewEgg will be the proud providers of my next upgrade. I plan on upgrading my main home lan server from a FIC VA-503+ / AMD K6-3+/450@500 to a Shuttle AK32L / Duron 1.2.... :D All this in the name of DC progress

However, I do fear that this upgrade will come entirely too late to stave off the packs that are nipping at my heels :(.... Congrats to Charles & NWM for their massive output, and keep on Folding, brothers......

It's funny, I have been noticing how slow my home server is also...
It was working just fine until I started folding.
Now, it just doesn't seem to handle the 3 or 4 print jobs per day quite like it should.
I wonder if one of those dual athlon rigs could withstand the load a little better....
...and then, I could put an outlet in the closet,
and put the old server in there by the sweaters....
so they'll be nice and warm next winter!!
That's it! Great plan.

:^)

Jokes aside, it does seem like I am always trying to think of good reasons I need faster hardware.
Oh well...
Fold on, TA.

mgpaulus,

i know that in the past, the durons were the way to get a cheap computer up and running, but take a look at the prices for an xp system. for $30 more you could have an xp 1600 that can overclock quite nicely. i just bought one myself. give it some thought. ;)
