I ordered some RAM from their affiliate chiefvalue.com on 12-03-06 and they double shipped my ordered and double billed my account. As soon as I got the email notification of this I jumped online to their customer service chat thing and was told to simply refuse shipment of one of the packages and they would handle the rest.
Refused package was returned on 12-13-06. I called later that week and was told as soon as it got put back into inventory that I would receive a full refund and then all would be good.
Called before Christmas asking what the status was... still waiting for it to be put back into stock. Nada.
Figured, what the heck, it's Christmas and it was probably hectic...
Called a few days after New Years to try to make something happen, talked to a Customer Service person named Crystal and was promised it would be dealt with.
Called back a week or so later and didn't even make it past the customer service goon... told it was "being handled"
Called yet again another week later(I've been distracted taking my dad for cancer treatments) and talked to a CS person who referred me to a "Quality care" person. This person assured me it would be handled in a timely manner.
A few days later I get a phonecall from a "Quality Care" person who apologizes profusely and tells me it's been dealt with and thankfully it was. A few days later I got the credit.
I was just about to start the chargeback thing with my bank but kept hoping they would do the right thing.
I don't know why it had to be that difficult. Over a month later after they received what should have been a simple return(their mistake BTW) I am still having to deal with it.
Anyway, I guess the point is that the next time you think Newegg is better than any other retailer you might want to think again. I believe they have grown past the point of actually caring whether you have a good experience or not. Luckily there is still zipzoomfly.com and other reputable outfits that are just as happy to take my money and will work with me with simple problems like this(a problem that was entirely their fault).
Anyway, buyer beware. I will think twice before ever ordering from Newegg or Chiefvalue again. 😉
Cliffs: Newegg is not all that
