Ok. Here's what's up? I buy a fairly large no. of flash drives off the internet which I send to a friend who retails abroad. Newegg has been my point of purchase for the last two years due to their low prices. Lately, my shipping costs have become outrageous.

My current shopping cart contains 21 flash drives worth $137. This would normally come in a package of less than 5 pounds weight. Well, the UPS 3 day shipping cost I get about $52.50 to Raleigh, North Carolina.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!! In fact, THIEVERY is the word that comes to mind!!! How could this be possible? I chat with a rep who tells me gas prices have increased. So, what?? This I must confess is disgusting. Especially for a couple from which I've placed $5000 worth of purchases in the past year.

Any comments on this Folks? will be greatly appreciated????

Does anyone know a better store/ means to purchase usb flash drives?? Cause I'm finding it difficult to find well priced options in the less than $10 per drive category.

All Advice greatly appreciated

Gas is going up - do you expect them to eat the rising cost that UPS charges them? And newegg has always charged per-item shipping, so that's not new.

I have Amazon premier and pay nothing on 2-day shipping.

They are probably charging you per item. If you want to pursue it find out from UPS what 3-day shipping from the items location to your zip code should cost and then ask Newegg why there is the difference since Newegg probably gets discounts from UPS.

if you buy large amounts to sell abroad dont buy RETAIL!

Contact a MANFUCATURER And buy a LOT...
Corsair / OCZ / etc will be GLAD To sell you a large amount at very cheap price... if not (lets say, if you want 100 units and smallest lot is 1000, at ALL companies, cause those amounts differ from company to company), CALL newegg, and ask about pricing for buying a lot of 50 or so from them...

Someone needs to take away your "!" button. And your "?" button while they're at it.
Might as well grab the CAPS LOCK on the way out.
You're a good candidate to post in P&N.
THIEVERY!!!

Anyway, I'd like to thank all those who bothered replying both with positive and not-so positive comments. I followed someone's advise and checked with ups for the cost of shipping a 5 pound package from California (Orange County, for example) to Raleigh, North Carolina.

UPS 2nd Day Air.........$41.54
UPS 3-day select .......$30.59
UPS Ground................$13.74

So, I guess that means gas prices haven't affected shipping costs that much. And since they are a reseller, they almost certainly get better rates than a regular customer. I suppose they just reduce the item price and top it off with the so called shipping costs.

Alright. Thanks folks for the help.
May God Bless You All.

And Special Thanks to Brovane

Wow, now that really impressed me how newegg support goes on this forum! Now I know why they are one of the best tech dealers online.

Newegg used to be horrible with shipping charges when you bought multiples of an item. If the shipping charge was $5 for the first item, ten of them would be $50 and so on. But that was a long time ago and I thought that problem was fixed. When it happened to me, I contacted their customer support who arranged a more proper shipping charge for my order.

I would guess if you give Newegg a call, they will adjust the shipping charge accordingly.

It was and it wasn't. It used to be that shipping stacked completely, as in your example of $5 on one item and $50 for 10 items. Now it's more like $5 on one item and $35 on 10 items. Each additional item does get discounted somewhat, but it still handily outpaces the actual shipping costs.

Note that none of this applies to items that always ship separately, such as monitors or cases. Those will always incur their own shipping charges, which is close to reality (but not quite, as there are multiple package shipping discounts).

I noticed buying some Kingston microSD flash that NewEgg has high shipping prices for qty 1, but they decrease as you add. So for 6 items, total shipping is $9, which didn't seem to bad to me.

I once had an opinion that good service from Newegg was expected. I buy and they ship - end of story. I saw no need to get all wrapped up in speedy shipping or customer service. However, there have been a number times when I was less than pleased with an item and surprisingly received a PERSONAL email asking me to give them a chance to make it right. I was somewhat impressed but still not really thrilled. Later another event popped up that left me less than pleased so I wrote an honest but clean post in their reviews. And again I was contacted with a plea to give them a chance to make it right. I told them to drop it but they continued to press the issue to make it right.

I won't spill the goods by telling the world in detail what happened or what the outcome was but believe me when I tell you that I now go to Newegg first and will always buy from them, even if what I want is a couple of bucks cheaper elsewhere. Why? Because they have convinced me many times that my business is important, and that's the kind of service that separates Newegg from the thousands of other vendors out there who sell cheaper items and send used parts or nothing at all. I'll take my chances with Neweeg every time now because when I was PO'd to the hilt they came after me and wouldn't let go until the deal was resolved - often beyond my expectations. I don't know what their business motto or their mission statement is but all companies should get it and use it.

How can someone flip out like you just did when your buying these to profit? Newegg is doing the exact same thing. Theoretically everyone that your buddy sells to should flip out in the same way since you are making a profit. Maybe Newegg caught on and wanted in on a piece of your action. Oh well, now your going to have to "work for a living".

Ewiz.com (now named NewBiiz), shipping quoted to Raleigh ZIP 27609 for:

10 Flash Drives = $10.69 UPS Ground

20 Flash Drives = $13.08 UPS Ground

30 Flash Drives = $14.58 UPS Ground

40 Flash Drives = $15.75 UPS Ground

The Generic or 'House Brand' flash drive products sold by Ewiz/NewBiiz are almost always Super Talent OEM products.

Newegg is now charging tax to NY. Until Newegg stops charging tax in NY, I will not shop at Newegg.

I do shipping, it is IMPOSSIBLE for a computer to know the real shipping costs with a program that has 3d measurements of each item, knowledge of what boxes you have, a program to arrange the items inside in 3d, and a way to inform the person packing them EXACTLY how to insert each item to get maximum packageness.

If they discount it too much automatically they could loose money becuase sometimes every single item is so oddly shaped it has to be packaged seperately (or in a HUGE box with a ton of empty space that has to be filled with expensive packing materials...)
Not to mention it also pays for the time of the people actually doing the packaging.

It has to be something specific, like 10 units of flash drives (small) so that could all be packaged at once.. also flash drives come in a sealed hard plastic package (the type designed by the devil that takes a deathray to open) and it takes WAY more space then just the drive alone.

No, newegg does not charge tax... NY charges newegg tax for sales to people in NY, and newegg passes on that charge to its customers.

I realize this, but Newegg didn't have to go along with it, because other stores are not and are suing NY. As the law stands now, it is unconstitutional to charge these taxes, I'm surprised Newegg agreed to it, and I'm surprised the courts let NY get away with it.

They should have continued to sell without paying and put the burden on NY to try and get that money. NY can then take it to the Supreme Court--and get laughed out of it.

Apparently Newegg has been deemed a business entity, or to have a business presence (via the Internet) in New York. If this is the case then NE has no choice but to collect the tax and forward it to the state. Many states are losing tax dollars due to online e-tailers and are redefining what qualifies as a business presence or entity within their state. Online and TV shopping services like QVC and others are also required to do the same, even though they do not own a B&M store in a given state. The tax law states that shopping via cable or dish qualifies as a business presence within the state, and since shopping via the Internet is gaining in popularity each year it is no surprise that some major e-tailers are being required to collect tax. It sucks but it happens. I have no idea why it is not consistent with all e-tailers, but my guess would be those doing a substantial volume business are getting nailed first.

Newegg has a warehouse in New Jersey. So there is a legal reason they can be charged tax there.

I suppose from a fairness point of view it makes sense--other than that states don't all charge the same taxes, and local shopping doesn't need shipping--but it is still illegal to do so according to existing US law. Don't people give a damn about the law anymore? I don't like the way some states are trying to do this under the table, it's just as bad as anything Bush has done with spying and other constitutional abuse.

Amazon and some other online stores are suing NY over this, Newegg should join them. I'm not going to pay taxes online until there is a law that says I must. Too bad for you Newegg, go sue NY, instead of allowing them to push you around.

Who did this anyway? It was Hillary Clinton, wasn't it? I bet it was Doomberg. He's always raising taxes on everything. Cigarettes cost more than some illegal drugs in NYC now.
