Here's a comparison from newegg:

I'm not seeing a difference in the specs, other than one being labelled "Juniper XT". Anyone able to explain what the difference is between these 2 cards?

I just got the first one you listed today (164$ one) it has a nice Heatpipe/Orb style of heatsink on it. I got it because it was the cheapest 5770 they had and I also like the look of an open card instead of a black box.

When it comes to 5770's I prefer the Asus because you can adjust the voltage for a maximum overclock. When overclocked it's very close if not faster then the 4890.

Took mine for a test spin. Windows 7 x64. Mine is the cheaper non reference style in a simple case with a 120mm intake and 2-80mm exhaust fans.

Case Temp 28*c

Card Idle temp 31*c

Stock 850/1200 It runs 56*c after 20 minutes of stress testing

Clocked 900/1375 Bumps up to 58*c

Artifacts started at 915 core so I bumped it back to 900, Memory was good at 1375 and I'm going to bump it up more tomorrow.

Most Asus's are getting 1025 core,1475 memory!

But thats a nice overclock @ those temps.

And most 4890's can be overclocked to bypass 285's so don't compare the 4890 with the junk 5770.

I wasn't. I was just stating that you can get 4890 performance with all the extra features that a new direct x 11 card have for a little less money.
With room to grow with driver improvments and definitly will be faster in direct x 11 games like Battlefront and Alien vs Predator.

😀

Edit; did I mention the resale value in 6 months? hehehe 🙄

The 5770 will never be as good as a 4890. Get the words "Driver Improvements" out of your head. If we are talking about a large resolution, the 5770 will struggle. I would not be surprised if the 4890 OUTPERFORMS the 5770 on high resolutions in DX11 games.

I'm hearing compelling arguments on either side. But I have to say.. I'm starting to get turned more towards the 4890.

You can get a 4890 for the same price ($20 cheaper if you apply for the rebate) as the 5770. The 5770 = 4870 w/ dx11. If you are looking for a single card solution and want to get better performance than a 4890, you would be looking at a 5850.

This has been a popular suggestion on the forums for a 4890.

Well the last cheap 4890 was sold.

195$ for a 4890 @ Newegg now

That 164$ 5770 looks good now.
