considering price/performance, its competitive, better buy, cooler overall.
3850 beats 8800GT in Crysis demo in avg. FPS -> HArdOCP Test
Same with UT3 demo here ---> HardOCP again

The 8800gt is running at higher settings in both of those tests

yep. Hardocp is not the place to go if you want benchmarks.

I'm sorry but the hardocp reviews are total garbage. They use different graphics settings on different cards then compare the fps number thinking they should somehow be similiar?!
For example if you look at the UT3 demo where the new ati card "beats" it you will notice that the ati card has NO AA or AF, while the 8800gt is running 2x AA and 16xAF! Which means the 8800gt would DESTROY the new ati card if if the AA and AF options were turned off.
and if you look at the crysis benchmark the ati card again "beats" the 8800gt, it is reviewed at 1280-1024 while the 8800gt is running at 1600-1200. How can you compare these two? This would be like having a race between a civic and a ferrari, but the ferrari can only use first gear.
Their methodology is just retarded in my opinion. It's almost as if they are trying to trick their readers.
yeah, hardocp actually has some pretty good reviews, but they're not conveniently put into a little chart that we can stare at and say "there, I told you that my 178901 gxxx2 is better than your crappy card!" It's great for determining if a specific game that you want to buy will do well on your system. Of course, I hate it :evil:Originally posted by: nullpointerus

The basis of their comparison is not fps but highest IQ at playable fps.
If you go into the review expecting to compare fps charts, then yes, it will appear silly.
Being different does not automatically make them worse. Confusing, perhaps. 😉
