Well, my credit card numbers just got stolen...again. I placed an order last time with newegg using a capital one card...Saw some porn charges on my statement..got that settled.

I recently ordered some more stuff from newegg with an mbna card..bam..stolen again..this time over $700 worth of fraudulent charges. I'm resolving it right now. So most likely the culprit is newegg. I also bought some stuff at 2cooltek at the same time so it may be their fault, but I doubt it.

Anybody else had their credit card info stolen from newegg? It seems that they have major security problems.

I'm only using MBNA shopsafe online from now on - like Amex it generates a unique card number for each purchase.

It's not possible that you have a keylogger or something on your own machine?

glad to see below you wrote

. I have used my mbna card for dozens of online purchases since november when I got it and I sleep well at night; I see no reason not to use shopsafe. Yeah it takes a few extra moments but I know that there is no way my number can be compromised. I can buy something from a secure-less site in russia and I know that no more than the amount I set the unique number to will go through.

ALWAYS use shopsafe!!

Does MBNA ShopSafe work for you on Newegg.com? Everytime I use it, they try to charge the number and they say they can't. I've called MBNA a few times and they dont know why it won't work. A few other places have the same problem (mostly smaller mom and pop type stores). I'm assuming it has something to do with the way they try to charge the credit card.

It does for me. I think I've only bought one thing from newegg though... All I do is make a new shopsafe account with the limit I expect to spend for this purchase and I would just enter that number at newegg. If it's a problem I suppose you could call them since it's their fault for not allowing people to change their visa numbers.

I can't imagine why in this day and age companies are still keeping CC info in their servers. I believe that for newegg you have to unclick the 'save' as opposed to actively clicking 'save', right?

Interesting. I too had some fraudulent charges on my card, and I did order from NewEgg in the previous month.

Ordered a few months ago, nothing yet, but will be ordering tomorrow, and keep an eye out, just in case.

Did you keep your cc# on file with Newegg? They ask you whether or not you want them to keep it on record for future purcharses or whatever, did you do that? Just wondering.

The only things that I ordered were from Newegg and 2cooltek. I haven't used the card other than that in a year.

I doubt that I have a keylogger on my machine. I scan regularly for viruses using norton.

I'm blaming newegg because the same situation happened about a year ago (nothing on the card for a year, order from newegg, stolen).

I've ordered from Newegg a number of times over the last year or so. No funny charges yet. (fingers crossed)

I've probably spent over a thousand dollars at newegg without any problems yet.

Well I was just trying to see if anyone was in the same boat as me. Apparently nobody is or I'm just very unlucky <-- most possible.

What charges specifically, for how much, and when were they charged? Maybe someone else got hit with the same charges and you two can find the common denominator. But I feel for you -- fraudulent charges are not cool. :(

Yes.
I too had my CC compromized recently. And like you it was used to subscribe to some internet porn services.
After a little investigation I found the only ONLINE transaction I had done with that card in the past 10 or more months... Was two days before the bogus charges were made. I used it to buy a video card from NewEgg.

I had my suspicions but let it slide. I'm curious how many others have had CC issues after a transaction with NewEgg.

It might be nice for the mods to put a sticky on this thread to gain as much info as possible so we might inform NewEgg of a legitimate problem.

My credit card info was stolen recently too. I had an account at newegg but removed it after the fraudulent charges. Mine was used for buying sporting goods online at fogdog sports. Luckily they caught it at the transaction because whoever stole my info put in the phone number one digit off and was also having something delivered to Cleveland. I got lucky, hopefully there are no pr0n charges on my card. I cancelled it right after the fogdog incident and I think everything is all good for a while.

Couple of questions:

Have any of you who suspect that their CC were stolen from Newegg contacted/alerted them that they have a possible security problem? I'm sure Newegg is a reputable business that doesn't want something like this to dirty their reputation. They may have a bad apple working for them in a sensitive position, or they may be getting hacked and not know it. Contact Newegg and let them know.

I can understand someone being able to use a stolen CC at a porn site, but every retail website I've ever bought anything from will ONLY deliver the merchandise to the billing address of the CC.

I did write to Newegg to alert them of their security problems. The guys ordered some software online, $600 worth of stuff from QVC, and some other thing which I assume is porn.

We got a box of $160 cookware from QVC this morning. Why they had it shipped here I don't know. Unless they had planned on having someone wait outside to get it from my doorstep before I did.... But I traced their IP (got it from the software store) back to LA. Coincidentally in the same area as Newegg. My thoughts are possibly it is an employee there. I mentioned this to Newegg.

My suspicious charges were to a company called "registerfly". Ring any bells with anyone?

<< My suspicious charges were to a company called "registerfly". Ring any bells with anyone? >>

From Google:

RegisterFly.com - Registerfly is a reseller for eNom (www.enom.com). Their domain registration price is one of the most inexpensive today at $9.99 yearly. From my experience, Registerfly's support team requires at least one full day to respond... the reason is still obscure. One of the attractive things that RegisterFly offers to its customers is its full featured domain management system. It is very easy to us and also allows multiple domain management just like Dotster. One negative experience that I had with Registerfly was that one the day after I registered a domain with them, their mail server went down for a few days; therefore, I was stranded without support. Although RegisterFly itself have been praised; their mother registrar, eNom have had many complaints due to their slow support response time.
