Newegg coming to Canada

That's good news. They should compete well against other big online shops such as NCIX and Tigerdirect.

edit: end of next year? that's quite far away :/

Newegg is a Taiwanese company that brings in cheaper workers from Taiwan. That is how they can maintain their low prices and also be growing so rapidly. Superior supply chain management and what not.

I've known about this for while now...i guess i should posted about it earlier.

RedFlagDeals thread on the eventual newegg.ca

I am extremely glad that they are expanding here, since NCIX.com really has a sorta monopoly in online sales, & they charge too much for so many things IMO.

BTW, Budman, i believe they will be opening sooner than late 2006 in Canada, but i can't recall for sure, since i haven't read that thread for a while.
You can look thru it for info 🙂

Aight, i looked thru that thread again, & the OP of that thread thinks it'll be opening Q4 of this year, or Q1/Q2 of next.
Since his dad is CEO of Newegg, i'd like to think he's guessing accurately, but it's hard to say.

Nope, it's not.

Newegg is owned by a Taiwanese man, & they have an office in Taiwan, but the company is American.

One of the concerns people have with Newegg coming to Canaduh is the fact that the product carried might be so-called "gray market" (not from here, which would mean short or no warrantees on products).

I doubt they'd do that though.

Will be interesting to see, but I think they have their work cut out for them. NCIX is pretty close to par with Newegg from what I've seen, so I doubt they'll be revolutionary nor will everyone just flock to Newegg. Bring it on though, me like the competition.

NCIX is great, but if Newegg orperated the same way they do in the US I'd go with them. NCIX sometimes takes long to process orders, and high-end hardware (especially video cards) are way over-priced.

oh my god, that is freaking SWEET!!!!!!!!!

finally!!!!

By the time they get here, they'll charge us all the same as the likes of Dabs and OcUK.

Nothing special.

just wondering, but where would newegg have to advertise online to raise awareness that it is planning on offering its services to Canada?
Any canadian hardware sites? Forums? Etc...

while advertising to the sites like hardocp/anandtech/2cpu/etc is probably what they are already gonna do, do you think that advertising on sports sites (newegg already advertises in sports illustrated here), and other "hobby" sites would reach a good # of ppl?

They might have some availability though. OcUK is pretty much the only site I've seen with the X2 3800+ listed.
