How do these cards compare to a 1080 GTX? I've been wanting to switch back to AMD but so far benches say not really an upgrade from a 1080 GTX.

It used to be handy to compare performance at UserBenchmark, but ever since the owners turned it into something that's written by an 12 year old angry fanboy, that's not an option for me.

So your best bet is to read a review of something like the RTX 2070, which often includes the GTX 1080 in it's graphs, and then read a review of the RX 6700 XT and see how it compares in performance to Nvidia's 2000 series.

Edit: Gamer's Nexus has a video that compares it to many of the Nvidia 1000 series if you care to watch it:

Yeah, I checked that site as always. Never solid info IMO.

Should be a fair bit faster is the TLDR.

Overall performance comparison of a bunch of cards compared to the 6700XT in this review from techpowerup, at 3 common resolutions.
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-radeon-rx-6700-xt/29.html
As you can see, overall they found it faster than a 2080 Super. For reference, a GTX 1080 will have similar performance to the Vega 64.

MSI Mech Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB GDDR6 PCI Express 4.0 Video Card RX 6700 XT MECH 2X 12G

$485 after $15 rebate. Edit: rebate form is for April purchases only so it may not or probably won't apply!

That should be below retail if the reference version is $479.
-------------------------------

Edit: Two more cards for $500.

MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT GAMING X Graphics Card at B&H Photo Video for $500.

Grabbed one from Neweggbusiness for under 450. Had some reward point via jobs account. Maybe now I can play some games at 4K.

OK, the MSI 6700XT is much better than my ROG 1080 GTX. I can now max out all games at 4K and play an playable FPS. Gonna put my 1080 and 1070 in FS soon!

The 6700XT trades blows with the 3060 Ti. I bought a 3060 Ti in December and it's no slouch. It's a great card that I think most people tend to underestimate. In Jan. I got a chance to get a 3070 through newegg shuffle. I paid way more than you did for each of those so you got one heck of a deal. Enjoy your new card :)

Plenty of folks have been asking about what is really an upgrade from a 1080 - I am glad it truly was for you! Given how close the 1080Ti I had "felt" in games to the 5700XT I also had at, I would have felt sure this was as slam dunk. Congrats on a new card :)

Yes. All the vs 1080 stuff always lead me to believe this card wasn't much faster but I think it's just most sites promote Nvidia. They say it's barely faster or on oar but on my system it's a huge improvement. I got tired of Nvidia and really miss the old ATI days so went back to amd..and I'm running gen 3 pcie and it's still a huge improvement.

Yeah, my understanding is that the 6700XT is a bit between the 3060Ti and the 3070 overall, but with more memory, but the RT performance isn't as good. Though for myself, I honestly would rather have 200+ FPS at medium-high to high settings than turn on ultra and RT, and I game at 1440p. I don't usually use RT myself, but if RT does matter to someone, I would recommend a 3080 or better honestly. RT is still quite taxing.

Anyway, congrats on the new card!
