Newegg.com Public Beta Website

Cool, they are redesigning... I mentioned this a tread about a month or two ago(It was a link to a newegg rebate, and it looked like a site redesign), but we had no concrete proof they were doing a redesign. Nice post.

disgusting. wastes so much space on my huge screen too.

I wouldn't say disgusting, but I don't think a centered store is right for them. Even though they are moving away from the 'amazon' style, i think it fit the company better. I mean, they have a LOT of different stuff..... why not show more deals on the main page? I don't really like scrolling that far down to see em all now.

Although I am running at 1600x1200. <shrug>

looks pretty good to me, nice solid and contrasting colors...however if it ain't broke, don't fix it? The old site is good, as I've always had an easy time getting around and finding what I need.

It's not a bad design for some people but it looks terrible at 1600x1200...horizontally it takes up less than half the screen.

Amen to that!

Yeah, I didn't like the wasted space on screen. It's not like they don't sell monitors/panels and know what size screen people are buying!!

I DONT like the new website. Try shopping at both the new and old site. Answer this question at each: What motherboards are offered for an A socket with onboard video?
On the old site you can just say video "YES". Simple "yes" and "no" responses are not available on the pulldown menus on the new site.

Great, another added expense, just to increase prices again. Newegg has gone down hill. Straight from their pricing, down to the expediate shipping.

If you develop webpages and check hit sites you will see there are still quite a few people running 800x600 resolutions. While I think its silly people still run this res, you still need to make it look good for the display challenged when choosing a fixed width.

Yes its way to narrow, im not website design expert but they should be able to use some sort of cookie or script or something detects the persons screen size and adjusts the site accordingly.

Also if your going to use a left side menu it should be broken down into more catagorys since theres more room now having it on the left. Also subcatagorys listed horizontal now just doesnt look right do to the space the text takes up, doesnt align well. These catagorys should also use buttons of all the same size, similar to the left side main catagorys.

I think the stats of a couple years ago 800x600 was the norm, but not now days, 1024x768. They can hire tons of great web designers that doesnt make it great. I suggest they take some cues from a site like directron.com wich is a DIY yahoo marketplace site (LMAO). But it works, works well despite its very simple and boring layout and it being a bit crowded. Some of my favortie to navigate and use computer hardware merchants use yahoo. Coolerguys, sidewindercomputer, nexfan, svcompucycle etc.......

Oh and.... my usual rant about newegg, BETTER SPECIALS!!! your specials just arent special enough! LOL .. You basically have to give away something for free and ill buy a bunch of other stuff with it that I need anyways because of shipping, thats how it works. Charging flat shipping rates for each product and not a total purchase shipping rate really hurts business. If I buy 20 products your not shipping 20 different boxes, its one box and shipping is cheaper for newegg itself, pass that on 2 me the consumer.

So somebody from newegg get your a** over here and read this

😛

800x600 is still a very high percentage of users, alot higher than the ones running 1600x1200 like I am several others in this TECH forum do. I can tell you for sure that I have alteast 6 family members running 800x600, my brother and I are the only 1600x1200's.
