Newegg Buffalo PC 3700 WARNING

Newegg is advertising Winbond module but no matter what you purchase they will send a micron module to you. Carefully, avoid Buffalo. I got two separate purchases of "winbond" turn out to be Micron. RMA it goes.

wtf is up with newegg?

first the used mobos and now this

Well I ordered my 2x256 buffalo pc3700 sticks last thursday and got the ram on Monday, they don't perform all that great, but they are in fact winbond bh-5 as advertised. Funny thing, it's no longer available on the website, only the 512 sticks are there when I checked just now.
These sticks were 50$ each.

Since NewEgg is out of the Winbond chips (if u look on their website its not even listed), I think they filled the remaining Winbond orders with different chips, and just hoped that people didnt notice. WHY does good ram have to be so hard to find??

Well let me ask you guys something....are any of you that have gotten something OTHER than the Buffalo Winbond B-h5 PC3700's from Newegg upset with the ram they sent you??

I was sent the Micron 3700 RAM and so far I am 1-1 at 233 FSB , a 2.6 @ 3 ghz with the following timings 3, 3, 4, 5 Burst Length 4.

I dont know if these timings are any good but I am trying to learn this stuff.......can someone tell me what each of these stand for and what is my ideal setting or number I want to be at for each??

thanks......Also when should I actually consider upping my DDR Reference Voltage?....right now its set at AUTO

And should my AGP/PCI be set at 66/33 or higher?

thanks

AFAIK, Corsair XMS3500 still uses BH-5 chips 😉

Have mine at 225Mhz 2-2-2-11, will be pushing a bit further in the future 🙂

I got the buffalo 3700 bh-5 chips, i'm not sure if i will keep them.

They will do up to 210 [1:1 or 5:4] ratio at 2.8vdimm with tight ass timing, but won't run pass 215 no matter how much i relax the timings.. ( 3-4-4-8)

Your timings seem kind of loose but you are running higher fsb than me, ideal timings on 865/875 chipset is 2-2-2-5, you want to get as close to that as possible without having to adversely lower your cpu clock too much.

You want to lock your agp/pci at 66/33

I'm in a crappy situating.. my 2.6 cpu will run 240( 3120) max fsb.. so i have to decide between running 240 5:4 with tight timings but underclocking my ram to 192. or 210 1:1 tight timings but this bring my cpu way down to 2730..... The second option lets me run the memory sync to system bus, enable PAT, and my cpu runs a bit cooler.. but the performace is much better with the cpu at 3120.

I'm thinking about rma ing my pc3700 bh-5 chips to get ocz pc3500 platinum.. which according to AT review lets me run 233 @ decent timings, but seeing as though i got the last 2 cheap bh-5 sticks that will run 2-2-2-5 turbo @ up to 210 fsb makes me reluctant to send these back.

Attn everyone: Winbond BH-5 IC's have been out of production since July. Everyone (Mushkin, Corsair, Kingston, OCZ and Buffalo) that is building RAM with those BH-5 ICs is using up their private stock of IC's and when it's gone, it's gone (unless Winbond retools their BH-5 fab again).

Buffalo ran out of BH-5 IC's and switched to Micron for their latest build.

Perhaps Newegg 's purchasing dept may not be aware of the difference between Micron vs. Winbond PC3700 Buffalo RAM so they just started sending out the new PC3700 Buffalo modules to fulfill existing orders. I don't think it's any kind of conspiracy or anything like that. Maybe someone should email Newegg to explain the situation to them and ask them to update the webpage.
