Here is what happened: I built the machine then tried to install XP. When XP rebooted (you know how it does that a bit during installation) I get an error something like "CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck - CPU SOFT MENU". So, I dug around in the case and ended up reseating the HSF. But, I still got that error. I went into the BIOS and set it to "Use Fail Safe defaults". It works! Then I get XP on there, and everything is fine untill I install my Linksys 10/100 LAN Card and Linksys WMP11 (Wi-Fi card). When I install those two things I get the "CPU is unworkable or has been changed" error again. I then took out the cards and still got that error. I re-installed both cards. Then I went back into the BIOS and set it to "Use Fail Safe defaults". It works again. Then I re-installed XP. Everything has been fine since then. Until now, I just installed WCPUID. First thing I am treated with is another error: "Uknown DPU Data !!!" from WCPUID. It doesn't know what I have, the Processor and Platform areas are greyed out. But everything else is filled out.

It says that I have an OriginalOEM Processor as the CPU Type. I bought this retail. Next thing wierd.

Internal clock: 2603.92
System Clock: 162.75
Multiplier: 16

System Bus: 650.98

Searching Intel's site I found that you would get the "CPU is unworkable or has changed" if your BIOS doesn't support your processor.

This IS a retail box P4C 2.6C according to the box. What is wrong? Anyone have any ideas of what I should do? Should I try and make give it a 200 Mhz FSB? I am thinking I should just send this back and get a new one, but this is VERY weird, IMO. Also, it is gets to around 45C when idle according to Hardware Doctor.

Offtopic: Is there anyway to post images? I want to post a screen of WCPUID.

Thanks in advance

Hmm, I would send it back...can't be the motherboard since the chip itself is unlocked and I don't think it's a B CPU because it would have a FSB of 133MHZ. Since you get the error message in the BIOS I am definitely thinking you need to send it back...very, very strange.

Damn, that is messed up. Everything is normal in CPUZ. Why would there be a difference? Also, maybe I am wrong but CPUZ reporting 1.488 v for the CPU, isn't that low for a P4C?

Have you updated your BIOS lately?

You can get wierd stuff like improper cpu ID if you don't follow the instructions correctly.
Like doing a complete shutdown of the computer after the BIOS flash, and then clearing the CMOS, or if you flashed with the wrong mb.

Okay, I called Intel and they said to use THEIR frequency tester. And it got all correct things in their tests (2.6GHz and an 800MHz FSB). So, it appears that WCPUID just sucks. ;) Now, does anyone have any ideas about why I was getting those errors?

EDIT: Yeah, I updated to BIOS 16 first time I booted up.
