NewEgg accidentally sends 5 Eee PCs instead of 1 (from the Reg)

Apparently, NewEgg had a little inventory system mishap, and some people buying Eee PCs ended up with a crate containing five of the things instead of just the one that they paid for. Story here. So, assuming it's legal to keep them where you live, what would you guys do with the extra four? Be honest folks :p.

Alternatively, I wonder if NewEgg could try to bill you for the extra 4, to "encourage" you to give them back.

I don't think so, I believe there is some truth to the vote unfortunately. As Skoorb said, what goes around comes around!

I bet if new Egg contacted them they'd send it back promptly.

How much do you want for one?

Uh yeah I would keep them. Its not the "right" thing to do but its not like Newegg hasn't crapped on people before. Rewind 3-4 years when they had top notch service valuing loyalty and yes I would have sent them back.

Seeing how I'm broke and maxxed out my credit card living on a graduate student's stipend, I'll have to wait until next year.

Just for clarification, I didn't buy any Eee PCs :p. I'm just curious about what others would do in this hypothetical situation.

If I were in this situation, I'd definitely give them back. They'd probably have to jack up their prices to make up the loss, so even if I ended up with a few thousand dollars worth of stuff I didn't pay for, other NewEgg customers would probably end up paying for it.

What's to say that I've been dealt a raw deal for quite a while and this incident would be in my favor?

What I was saying is that, if NewEgg contacts you about the 5 pcs and they know you have them, it's not like they don't know where the glitch sent the laptops and therefor it's not about your conscious anymore it's a matter of would NewEgg litigate against your ass to get the $1200 worth of laptops back as opposed to it's all hush hush and you can send the laptops if I want to only.

Well according to the article NewEgg was contacting those who received them so I was basing my answer on that.

Maybe a few years ago I would have taken the stance of "their loss is my gain" but I don't feel that is the right thing to do morally.

Just put yourself in their shoes.

What if you have a business that sold goods and because of a mistake gave people 5 times what they paid for? Clearly it's not (morally speaking) right to keep them IMO.

Just send them back with them paying shipping.

I'd send them back. Newegg has always been a great company to buy from, I would definitely return the favor. Of course shipping 4 computers back would be pretty expensive. I hope they'd send me a shipping label or at least reimburse me for the shipping. And knowing Newegg they'd probably throw me a 10 dollar coupon code or something for doing the right thing, but I would not automatically expect one.

Edit: Oops, didn't read the part about the $50 credit. That's not a bad deal at all.
