I purchased a Athlon64 2800+ processor from newegg that arrived today. It is supposed to be a newcastle core and newegg advertises it as so. BUT, the processor I received did not have the stepping code of AX, instead it had the AP stepping code, which is supposed to mean it is a C0 revision. A C0 revision is old, and not as good an overclocker. I don't even know what this really is because all A64 2800+ are supposed to be newcastles which are all supposed to be revision CG. From another site, I found "Thier are some retailers that are selling so called Newcastle Core A64's that are actually Clawhammers with half the cache disabled. If you somehow have CO stepping newcastle, it can be reconised by the AP at the end of the model." What does this mean for me and the processor?

The entire codes are ADA2800AEP4AP
CAATC 0412SPMW

i just checked the newegg webpage and they have it listed as an "AP" well at least for the OEM processor.

It means you got what you paid for.

If you're not happy about it, you can always return it and just eat up the 15% restock fee.

That's all I can suggest but you got what you were supposed.

Yeah i did notice that too. I don't know, I think i'll keep it, but why would they be shipping these! They say newcastles, and that is not what these are. You'd think newegg would have newer stock becuase these are kind of outdated. Does anyone else on here have this processor, and how is it overclocking for u?
