newbyish question

I'm getting my T-bird in about 3 days, so I figured I should know what else to get for it.

Does anyone know where to get a cheap HS/F combo that'll work @ it's default speed (750)?

I know I need a HS/F and some thermal grease, but what else might I need?

what is a copper shim used for?

thanks

http://www.inflowdirect.com has some good prices also.

I'd recommend a Taisol CGK742092 HSF (about $25) and maybe some Artic Silver thermal grease. The Taisol is a very quiet HSF and yet it does a real good job cooling at default speed or overclocked. From what I hear the thermal pad supplied with the Taisol is very good and it's also easier for someone who never used thermal grease. I use the Taisol/artic silver combo on my Duron 600 overclocked to 1GHz and I have no heat problems. You can also upgrade the fan to a Sunon or a YS-Tech fan for only a couple of bucks and it will still be relatively quiet. Just STAY AWAY from the Delta 38CFM fan unless you want your PC to sound like an F-14 at takeoff 😉

I'd skip the copper shim because I have only heard bad things about those.

Also, search this forum because you'll find many other questions like yours. Hope this helps!

The copper shim is only to help stabalize the HSF on the cpu. If you are really afraid of damaging the core, you might want to get one. If you take your time and are careful, you won't need one.
