Ok. I only want to network 2 or 3 computers in my home and I am not sure which way to network them. Should I use peer-to-peer networking, since it such a small newtworking job? Or should i go get a crappy comp and use it as a server? I was also wondering if I should use UTP cable and what kind of ethernet card to use. should i use 10baseT and will that be fast enough? I want this to be faster than having a PC with a 256k cable connection.

Thank You. 😱

Even the fastest consumer broadband connection comes nowhere near the lowest speed network connection, so exceeding the speed of your cable modem isn't even a consideration.

But, you should get 10/100 cards NOT 10Base cards since there is very little price difference and this is, after all, the 21st Century (Copyright, Spidey).

If you're only connecting two systems, you can start with just the network cards and a crossover cable. If three, you'll need a switch.

Peer to peer is just fine. There is no reason to have a dedicated server, unless you were planning to use it as an internet gateway.
