Newbie wireless question

Current setup:

In computer room, PC and Comcast cable modem.

Planned setup:

In living room 20 feet away, projector and/or LCD HDTV/monitor, with gaming setup ~8 feet from screen. Currently no PC or cable modem connection.

How should I set this up?

Is there a sensible way to keep the PC in the computer room and use wireless connections for anything I want to do, or should I have a PC in the living room?

I'm thinking I should have a wireless keyboard and mouse to sit back and play remote from the screen and PC, too.

Should I get the living room wired for a second cable modem conneciton, or use a wireless network?

Newbie to all of this - please advise on the sensible way to approach it.

you need a PC in the living room. DVI cables only go up to 5m usually. you can network the both of the PCs and use a router to share your one cable modem connection.

So, you suggest a wireless router using one cable connection, over getting a second cable connection wired in the living room?

Is there much of a performance hit on the internet speed with the wireless router?

Thanks.

Now I feel a bit overwhelmed though🙂

Makes it tempting to get the additional cable modem outlet installed just for simplicity.

this thread is sorta old, but still. If you get a router, it's roughly 40 bucks, but you can share your files between computers and also there's the bonus of not having to get another wall jack and monthly service fee if you want a 3rd computer.

There's no (noticeable) performance hit with a router.
